The endgame has officially begun in Kingstown and it’s shaping up to be messy in all the ways fans love.
Production has kicked off on the fifth and final season of the Paramount+ crime drama Mayor of Kingstown, bringing the gritty saga of corruption, crime, and backroom power plays closer to its inevitable finale. The series, co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, has spent four seasons turning the fictional prison town of Kingstown into one of television’s most volatile pressure cookers. With cameras now rolling in Pittsburgh for the final chapter, the stakes are about to get even higher.
At the center of the chaos is Jeremy Renner, returning as Mike McLusky, the reluctant power broker who keeps Kingstown’s delicate balance from completely imploding. Mike has always been less “mayor” and more “guy desperately trying to keep the town from burning to the ground,” and the events heading into season five suggest the flames are spreading fast.
Joining the cast for the final season is David Morse, who steps in as FBI agent Russell Hardy. Hardy arrives in Kingstown hunting a fugitive and digging into the fallout from Tracy’s murder and the revenge taken by Mike and Kyle. If that sounds like bad news for Mike, that’s because it is. Hardy is described as a true lawman which in Kingstown translates to someone dangerously close to exposing every secret Mike has spent years burying.
The final season will also feature returning and familiar faces including Edie Falco, Laura Benanti, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Necar Zadegan, Nichole Galicia, and Lennie James. In other words, the full roster of players who have helped make Kingstown one of TV’s most dysfunctional municipalities is back for one final round.
Over the years, Mayor of Kingstown has carved out a distinct corner of the television crime landscape. While other prestige dramas flirt with moral gray areas, this series dives straight into the deep end, exploring a town where prisons are the primary industry and compromise is the only currency that matters. Sheridan’s storytelling fingerprints are all over it, morally complicated characters, brutal consequences, and the lingering sense that order is always hanging by a thread.
Heading into its last season, the show appears ready to double down on the chaos. With the FBI now sniffing around and the fragile alliances that hold Kingstown together starting to crack, the final episodes look primed to push Mike McLusky into his most dangerous corner yet.
All four previous seasons of Mayor of Kingstown are currently streaming on Paramount+, making it the perfect time for a binge before the final showdown arrives.
One thing is certain: Kingstown has never exactly been a stable place to live. As production ramps up on the final season, the only real question left is how much of the town will still be standing when the dust settles. And knowing this show, the odds aren’t great. 🎬
