Masters of the Universe Review – A Must-See Fantasy Epic

Masters of the Universe is the long-awaited reboot of the beloved 1980s franchise, and as someone who has never been deeply invested in the world of He-Man, I can confidently say this film completely won me over. Whether you're a lifelong fan of the source material or a newcomer like me, this movie delivers an exciting, emotional, and visually stunning adventure that deserves to be experienced on the biggest screen possible.
Leading the cast is Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam, the young hero destined to become He-Man. Despite some skepticism surrounding his casting when the project was first announced, Galitzine proves exactly why he was chosen for the role. He brings charisma, heart, and physicality to Adam, making the character feel both relatable and heroic. Whether he's engaging in massive action sequences or sharing quieter emotional moments with his fellow characters, Galitzine carries the film with confidence. By the time the credits rolled, I was already excited to see where he takes the character next.
Joining him are Camila Mendes as Teela and Idris Elba as Duncan, better known as Man-At-Arms. Together, they form what I consider the emotional core of the film. Elba is particularly fantastic, delivering some of the movie's most memorable scenes. His first major confrontation with the villainous Trap Jaw is one of the standout action sequences and serves as the catalyst for Duncan's character arc.
What I appreciated most about Duncan is that he's allowed to fail. Once a respected protector of the royal family, he falls into a deep depression after suffering a devastating defeat. The film doesn't shy away from showing how broken he has become, but it also gives him a meaningful journey toward redemption. Watching him fight to reclaim the man he once was adds genuine emotional weight to the story.
Teela's journey is equally compelling. We first meet her as a child alongside a young Adam as they witness the tragic events that forever change Eternia. As an adult, the scars of that day still influence her choices and relationships. Her determination to help her father rediscover his strength creates some of the film's most heartfelt moments. The evolving father-daughter relationship between Duncan and Teela is one of the strongest aspects of the entire movie.
Of course, no Masters of the Universe story would be complete without Skeletor, and Jared Leto absolutely surprised me in the role. In fact, this may be my favorite performance from him in years. He fully embraces Skeletor's larger-than-life presence while still making him feel threatening and dangerous. Whether he's delivering intimidating speeches or commanding his forces, Leto looks like he's having a blast. Joining him is Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn. While I wasn't completely sold on every aspect of her performance, I still enjoyed what she brought to the character and appreciated her chemistry with Skeletor.
Beyond the performances, the film is simply gorgeous to look at. The production design, costumes, creatures, and environments all help bring Eternia to life in a way that feels both epic and believable. It's clear that a tremendous amount of care went into creating this fantasy world, and that attention to detail pays off in every frame.
The action sequences are thrilling, the humor lands consistently, and the movie's themes are surprisingly thoughtful. There is an underlying exploration of masculinity and what it truly means to be a man, but it's handled with far more nuance than I expected. One particularly touching scene between Adam and his father perfectly captures the film's emotional core and left a lasting impression on me.
At the end of the day, Masters of the Universe exceeded all of my expectations. It delivers spectacular action, strong character development, emotional storytelling, and breathtaking visuals while remaining true to the adventurous spirit that made the franchise beloved in the first place.
I loved every minute of this movie, and I genuinely believe audiences will too. Do yourself a favor and see it in theaters. Don't wait for streaming. This is the kind of fantasy epic that deserves the big-screen experience, and if you skip it, you might end up regretting it.
