Kennedy Ryan’s Before I Let Go is officially making the jump from the page to the screen.

After spending years in development, Peacock has given a series order to the television adaptation of Ryan’s bestselling romance novel, according to Deadline. The news marks a major step forward for a project that has been on romance readers’ radar for quite some time, and now Yasmen and Josiah’s story is actually headed toward television.

Before I Let Go centers on Yasmen and Josiah Wade, a divorced couple who have already been through more together than most relationships could survive. Their marriage may be over, but their lives are still very much intertwined as they raise their two children and continue running their Atlanta restaurant together.

Both have tried to move forward, but moving on gets a little complicated when the connection that once brought them together refuses to completely disappear. What follows is a second-chance love story about grief, family, healing and whether two people can find their way back to each other after life has changed them.

The novel was published in 2022 and launched Ryan’s Skyland series. It was followed by This Could Be Us and Can’t Get Enough, which expand the world through other characters and relationships while keeping the stories connected. The Peacock adaptation has actually been in the works for several years, but it received some new momentum earlier this year when Ryan signed a first-look deal with Universal Studio Group. Under that deal, Ryan is developing and producing television projects across Universal’s platforms, with Before I Let Go serving as the first project out of the partnership.

Ryan is co-writing the adaptation with The Best Man creator Malcolm D. Lee, who also executive produces. That pairing already made the project one to watch, especially considering Lee’s history of bringing complicated Black relationships, friendships and families to the screen.

Now the series order means we can move on to the next big question: Who is going to play Yasmen and Josiah? No casting has been announced yet, which means Kennedy Ryan readers will undoubtedly have plenty of opinions about who should bring the fan-favorite couple to life. There is also plenty of material available if Peacock ultimately wants to explore more of the Skyland universe beyond the first story.

A premiere date has not been announced.

For readers who have been waiting years to see Before I Let Go make it out of development, though, this is the update that matters most. Yasmen and Josiah are officially one step closer to the screen.
