The Invincible War is still raging as Mark wakes up floating in space, surrounded by debris and bodies. Beaten and battered, he races back to Earth. Down below, Debbie and Oliver try to maintain some sense of normalcy, starting their day with breakfast before Oliver heads out to fight. Across the city, Eve helps stop robberies, but she’s clearly weighed down by everything happening around her. Meanwhile, Cecil, Donald, and the GDA technicians continue working nonstop as memorials line ruined streets and the world struggles to rebuild.
When Mark returns, he intervenes in a battle against a flame-breathing dinosaur alongside Brit, Black Samson, Shapesmith, and Robot. He quickly ends the fight, but the civilians barely react, underscoring how far public opinion has shifted. At the Pentagon, Cecil and Donald note both the save and the lack of gratitude, a sign that even victories feel hollow right now.
Back home, Mark’s physical and emotional scars are impossible to ignore. Much of his body is still reinforced with cybernetics, and the trauma of the war lingers in flashes of violent memory. When he tries to pull Oliver into another fight, Oliver pushes back, exhausted and frustrated. Debbie steps in, urging both of them to rest, but Mark refuses, convinced he doesn’t deserve a break while the world still needs saving.
Cecil attempts to rebuild the Guardians of the Globe, asking Brit, Monster Girl, Black Samson, Bulletproof, and Rudy to return. The team is hesitant, still distrustful after Cecil’s contingency plans against Mark were revealed. They eventually agree under strict conditions, including higher pay and zero tolerance for betrayal. Brit remains the leader, despite Rudy arguing he is the more logical choice.
Mark is then lured into another confrontation, this time with Dinosaurus, whose twisted ideology frames mass death as a solution to overpopulation and environmental collapse. After a brutal fight, Dinosaurus reverts to human form and begs for help, claiming he has no control over his actions. The Guardians arrive to take him into custody, but Mark leaves without much of a response, clearly shaken.
Seeking comfort, Mark visits Eve, who is trying to channel her powers into humanitarian work by taking corporate money and redistributing it. Their attempt at a normal evening quickly turns tense during dinner with her parents. Eve’s father blames Mark for the destruction that cost him his job and questions the danger he brings into their lives. Later, he confronts Mark privately, pointing out that Eve has nearly died more than once because of him. Mark begins to internalize that guilt, wondering if he causes more harm than good.
At the same time, new threats emerge. Sequids begin infecting people through the sewer system, rapidly spreading across the city, while Universa arrives on Earth to drain its energy resources to save her own dying planet. As chaos escalates, Mark and Eve confront Universa at a power plant. Her abilities render Eve nearly powerless, and Mark is overwhelmed when he tries to intervene. Eve ultimately disables Universa by separating her from her staff, but something is clearly wrong with her powers, which begin failing unpredictably.
The sequid outbreak becomes a full-scale crisis, forcing the Guardians into a containment operation. Despite their coordinated efforts, they are quickly overwhelmed. Mark joins the fight and pushes through the infestation to reach the host controlling the hive. With no time left and the containment field collapsing, he kills the host in a brutal and very public way.
The sequids immediately drop lifeless to the ground, but the damage is done, and everyone is left staring at Mark in silence.
The episode closes on a chilling note as Nolan, still alive in captivity, easily breaks free and escapes into space. Cecil and Donald can only watch in shock, knowing exactly what this means for Earth.
This premiere wastes no time reestablishing the stakes. It’s intense, emotionally heavy, and packed with action, while also pushing its characters into darker territory. Mark is no longer the hopeful hero he once was, and the world no longer sees him the same way. Eve’s instability adds another layer of uncertainty, and the return of Omni-Man raises the threat level even higher.
This was a power-packed episode with multiple storylines hitting at once, and it absolutely delivers. Some developments will need a rewatch to fully process, but that only adds to how dense and engaging it is. Between Mark’s physical recovery, Debbie finding happiness with Paul, and the introduction of new threats, the episode sets up a compelling season ahead.
I give this episode 5 out of 5 stars.
