Episode 4 is here and wow, what an episode this was. We explored a lot of character development for almost everyone on canvas and are ramping up the stakes as we have reached the middle of the season. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next and I’m excited to announce that Episode 5 will be dropping early on Friday next week.
The Tender storyline is once again at the forefront of our episode this week. We see Harper and Eric having some anxiety and disagreement about how to handle the exposé that they were planning to release and are still digging for information for. Harper wants the story to be released so that people can see what is happening over at Tender, but Eric wants to be mindful of the situation and still keep their joint venture’s integrity intact. Which then brings us to them bringing Sweetpea even further into the folds of their research and investigation for this process. After seeing next week’s promo, I am nervous to see what is going to happen on this trip to further investigate.
To go hand in hand with that, we see Henry and Yasmin in the thick of joining the Tender leadership. Throughout the episode, we can see that Whitney is noticing and learning the way that Yasmin and Henry work together and separately in their relationship. I feel like he is finding their strengths and the things that feed their egos and giving it to them to rope them in. I will say, I do also think that he sees the potential in both of them, but he also knows that he can use them if anything goes south. Which is seeming more and more likely with each passing moment. I don’t know who is going to win the fight, but as a fan, I don’t want anything to negatively affect Yasmin or Harper so I’m on the edge of my seat to see the conclusion of this storyline. Also with the Henry/Yasmin front, we are getting to see a new side of Hayley this week.
We have a moment where Hayley is talking to Yasmin about some potential worries she had about their threesome, Yasmin ultimately pushes these down to her anxiety from the moment she had with Jim/James earlier this season and that Hayley was the one to initiate the whole thing. Towards the end of the episode, as Yasmin accepts her new position in communications, she appoints Hayley as her assistant. Hayley and Yasmin have an intense conversation in the elevator about this and about their shared moment. This scene was so well acted and Kiernan’s ability to switch on the drop of a dime was actually scary to watch. Now we don’t only have the Tender backfire to worry about, but Hayley as well.
We also follow Rishi for a bit, we see that he is now dealing drugs in his spare time. This leads him to being at a club and running into Jim/James. They strike up a conversation and wind up heading back to Rishi’s flat. While there, they end up drinking and doing copious amounts of drugs together. They have some conversations and get a little under each other’s skin. As we inch towards the end of the episode, we see Rishi spiraling as he reflects on his wife’s death and James taking things a step too far. This leads to him overdosing and dying in the flat. The cops show up due to a noise complaint and Rishi closes the door in their face. Rishi starts panicking because James is laying there dead in his living room, he ends up deciding to jump from the balcony of his apartment. Which we think is the end of Rishi, but in the last moments we see that his feet are badly injured from the impact, but he is still breathing, & the cops arrest him.
This was such a uncomfortable and tough watch, I’ve mentioned previously that Rishi was already at rock bottom, but this just feels like far beyond at this point. And for all the fanfare of Charlie Heaton’s character, I was a little underwhelmed by his impact to the story and the fact that he’s gone halfway into the season. I truly feel like aspects his character could’ve been melded into Hayley and Sweetpea’s characters to further push the Tender exposé forward.
Overall, a pretty solid episode that built some groundwork for the Tender revival in the public eye, while also showing us the background of wanting to expose them for the things they’ve done and are hiding. After the ending of the episode, I’m curious to see how the last half of Season 4 will play out. I would give this episode a 4.5/5 star rating.
