‘Imperfect Women’ Renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV

So much for “limited.”
Apple TV has officially renewed Imperfect Women for a second season, turning the psychological thriller into an ongoing series after its first chapter was originally presented as a limited event.
Kerry Washington will return as Eleanor, and this time the series is moving beyond the story told in Araminta Hall’s novel.
Season 1 followed Eleanor, Mary and Nancy as the murder of one of three longtime friends tore open decades of secrets, betrayals and complicated relationships. The series starred Washington alongside Elisabeth Moss and Kate Mara and wrapped its eight-episode run in April.
Season 2 is taking a different approach.
The new chapter will center on Eleanor as she returns to the affluent Black community on Martha’s Vineyard where she grew up. What looks like an idyllic homecoming quickly becomes something much messier as secrets and scandals force Eleanor to question what she thought she understood about her own past.
That setup gives Imperfect Women a pretty natural way to continue without simply stretching Season 1 past its original ending. Rather than trying to recreate the same mystery with the same group of characters, the series can keep its themes of buried secrets, fractured relationships and uncomfortable truths while building an entirely new story around Eleanor.
Washington will once again star and executive produce.
Series creator Annie Weisman is also returning and will co-showrun Season 2 with Justin Hillian, whose credits include The Chi and Snowfall.
There is currently no announced premiere date for the second season.
The renewal is an interesting turn for a show Apple originally promoted as an eight-episode limited series. But limited apparently only stays limited until everyone decides there is another story worth telling. And this time, Eleanor is bringing the secrets home.
