Halloweentown 5: Everything We Know About Disney's Magical Sequel

Somebody light the jack-o'-lanterns and grab the spellbooks because we're heading back to Halloweentown! After two decades without a new installment, Disney is officially developing a fifth movie in the beloved Halloween franchise, and the timing couldn't be more perfect.
According to PEOPLE, Halloweentown 5 is in early development, with Lily Houghton and Ryan Koehn writing the screenplay. The project will revisit the magical universe first introduced in the 1998 Disney Channel Original Movie, although story details and casting announcements are being kept under wraps.
Now, Disney, we have one very important question: Is Kimberly J. Brown coming back as Marnie Piper? Because after what happened with the fourth movie, we have some unfinished business!
Will Kimberly J. Brown Return as Marnie?
Brown portrayed Marnie in the first three Halloweentown movies before Sara Paxton took over the role in 2006's Return to Halloweentown. That casting decision remains one of the franchise's most debated moments among longtime fans, many of whom have wanted to see Brown return ever since.
Earlier this month, Brown revealed that she's absolutely interested in revisiting the character. She even suggested that an older Marnie could be running for mayor of Halloweentown, which sounds like the kind of magical political chaos we would happily watch.
While Brown hasn't been officially announced for the fifth film, her enthusiasm certainly gives fans something to hope for. And considering that the original movie premiered nearly 30 years ago, exploring Marnie's adult life could offer the franchise a fresh direction without abandoning what made it special.
Could Billie Lourd Join the Halloweentown Family?
There's another interesting possibility surrounding the franchise. Billie Lourd, the granddaughter of the late Debbie Reynolds, recently expressed interest in participating in a future Halloweentown project.
Reynolds famously portrayed Aggie Cromwell, the beloved grandmother who introduced Marnie and her siblings to their magical heritage. The actress died in 2016, leaving behind a character whose warmth, humor, and wisdom remain central to the franchise's legacy.
Having Lourd join the magical world her grandmother helped create would be a meaningful way to honor that history. Nothing has been announced regarding her involvement, but the possibility is certainly worth getting excited about.
Halloweentown Still Has Plenty of Magic Left
The original Halloweentown premiered in 1998 and became a Halloween tradition for generations of Disney Channel fans. It was followed by Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge in 2001, Halloweentown High in 2004, and Return to Halloweentown in 2006.
Despite the franchise's long absence, its popularity has endured. According to the new report, the movies have accumulated more than 160 million streaming hours globally on Disney+, proving that fans haven't forgotten the Cromwell family's magical adventures.
For now, Halloweentown 5 remains in the early stages of development, with no confirmed cast, director, or release date. But the possibility of returning to this beloved world is enough to get longtime fans excited, especially with Halloween right around the corner.
And Disney, while we're making requests, bring back our original Marnie and give Aggie Cromwell the tribute she deserves. Some magic is simply too special to leave in the past.
