Going Dutch Season 2 Episode 3 Recap: General Davidson Threatens Maggie—But Quinn’s Move Shocked Everyone

People in playful attire dancing energetically on a red carpet in a festive room with balloons and bookshelves. Lighthearted mood.

Colonel Patrick Quinn tells Jan about the history behind the birthday of the United States of America. It will be 250 years old. Jan, being from the Netherlands, is not impressed. The Colonel wants to have a "Semi-Quinn"Centennial Celebration. Captain Maggie and Major Shah plan a trip to Baumholder, Germany to get turkeys at the PX for the big celebration. They’re calling it “Operation Zero Dark Turkey”.  Corporal Papadakis and Sergeant Conway are going with them under duress. The Colonel comes over with a change of plans. He now wants to rename the centennial celebration completely after him, and is calling it the “Semi-Colonel-Patrick-Quinn” Centennial. Captain Maggie knows her Dad and sees how he wants to make everything all about him.  He wants to go with them because he thinks General Davidson is still upset with him for winning their laser tag war, and holding their turkeys hostage. Captain Maggie tells him not to come, but relents if he does his part.

Colonel Quinn is the designated driver, while everyone sits and has fun talking about what they will buy at the PX. Sergeant Conway tells Corporal Papadakis that she doesn’t care about the PX, she’s going to a party one of her friends is throwing. He wants to go, too, but she tells him it’s for invitees only.

Colonel O’Conner stops Colonel Quinn and Captain Maggie at the PX entrance with two Military Policemen.  He says General Davidson wants to see them immediately, and he won’t take “no” for an answer. Colonel Quinn can’t help telling his daughter “I told you so, and it’s a trap.”

General Davidson has both Quinns in his office. Colonel Quinn rubs it in that he is still sore about getting beat on the laser tag battlefield. Davidson threatens to requisition 250 turkeys, leaving none available for the Stroopdorf USAG Base’s celebration. Captain Maggie has to stop her Dad from tormenting General Davidson. The General wants her to tell him what she really thinks about her Dad. She spills all of her pent-up feelings about her Dad never being around while she was growing up, and the General is enjoying it.

At an undisclosed location on the Baumholder base, Sergeant Conway uses the code word “cucumber” to gain access to an exclusive party. She’s gotten rid of her uniform, and changed into civilian clothes. They let her in, and a few minutes later she heard a voice at the door she recognized. It’s Corporal Papadakis. He threatens to be himself, and gains a lot of attention.  Sergeant Conway tries to hide. Papadakis is the life of the party, but doesn’t realize he’s the joke of the party. Papadakis recognizes the ‘mean girls’ are making fun of him, faces them and throws shade at them. He scares them away. Conway didn’t know he could defend himself so well. He tells her it’s easy being mean, but he didn’t think Conway was one who would hang around with ‘mean girls’.  Conway is impressed with Papadakis’ abilities. He is disappointed in her, and didn’t think she was that kind of person.

Captain Maggie goes to their van and vents to Major Shah about how her Dad always manages to disappoint her. Just as Shah agrees, the Colonel arrives with a shocking surprise. Guess who stole some turkeys? Captain Maggie confronts her Dad, and tells him he didn’t do this for her. Now she believes General Davidson will think she stole the turkeys. At that moment, Colonel O’Conner shows General Davidson the empty freezer. Davidson is angry and wants the turkeys found.

Major Shah, Captain Maggie and Colonel Quinn devise a new plan to return the turkeys to the kitchen freezer. The base is now on high alert, searching for them. They have to work undetected. Shah tells Papadakis they are now doing a reverse-exfiltration of the turkeys. Captain Maggie asks Papadakis about Conway. They need her because she knows Baumholder better than anyone. He fills them in, and says Conway chose her “mean girlfriends” over them. He says they are better off without her.  They suit-up in stealth stuff, and head for the kitchen. They almost get caught, and Conway gets them to safety. Colonel Quinn stays back, and confronts General Davidson.

General Davidson interrogates Colonel Quinn, and threatens to have Captain Maggie dishonorably discharged.  Maggie is struck by her Dad standing up for her. Shah tells her more about her Dad than she knows. Her Dad loves missions. Captain Maggie comes up with a plan, and turns herself in to General Davidson. She tells him to check the fridge for the turkeys. She tells him he may have a memory problem. Captain Maggie and Colonel Quinn leave. Her Dad reminds her that she was supposed to leave.  He is proud of her slick outmaneuvering of General Davidson. She has figured out a little, how her Dad thinks and knows his idea of home does include having her around. Conway and Shah make a run to the PX while the General is distracted, and buy groceries for their centennial celebration. Her Dad stays true to himself and doesn’t say anything sweet.

Conway apologizes to Papadakis with a gift only he would appreciate. She says he makes her being at Stroopsdorf an eye-opening experience. She realizes she is more like the rest of the Stroopsdorf troops than she realized. MAJ Shah gives Maggie a surprise stolen turkey.

Jan loves the American celebration thanks to the food. The turkey is a little dry, so they drown it in ketchup, adding some deliciousness. They celebrate a Happy Quinn-Centennial. They end this episode with some Papadakis’ weird dance moves.

This was really a much better “Going Dutch” episode. Saw Colonel Quinn and Captain Maggie almost have a moment where the Colonel almost admits he loves serving together with his daughter. She’s his version of home. Conway and Papadakis become good friends, and MAJ Shah steals a turkey for Captain Maggie. They also beat General Davidson again. It had some good laugh moments.

I give this episode 4.2 Stars out of 5.
