The Woodstone Mansion is getting a permanent structural upgrade, and no, it is not another plumbing disaster courtesy of a centuries-old ghost. CBS has officially promoted Ben Feldman to a series regular for Ghosts Season 6. After popping up in Season 4 and lingering through Season 5 as a recurring guest star, Feldman’s character, Kyle, is officially moving in. For a show already bursting at the seams with historical roommates, adding another living person who can actually see the dead changes the entire dynamic. Sam might finally get to take a personal day.
The Ghost Babysitter Goes Full-Time
When Kyle first arrived on the scene, he felt like a fun novelty. Another medium? In this economy? Yes, please. But as the episodes rolled on, his function became completely necessary. Much like Sam, Kyle shares the rare psychological burden, sorry, "gift"of communicating with the deceased.
When Sam needs to escape the mansion to preserve her own sanity, Kyle steps in as the ultimate ghost babysitter. He reads the room, handles the centuries-old bickering, and keeps the spectral residents from completely losing their minds. Feldman, beloved by sitcom purists for his years of corporate suffering on Superstore, brings a perfect blend of high-energy comedy and deep emotional weariness. He looks exactly like a man who knows he is arguing with a Viking who has been dead since 1000 AD, and he plays it beautifully.
Cleaning Up the Season 5 Finale
The timing of this promotion is entirely strategic. The Season 5 finale left the fandom in a state of absolute panic. Kyle, Jay, and Pete took an emergency trip to London to dig into Nancy’s family tree. It was a sweet bonding trip right up until the final moments when Pete mysteriously vanished into thin air.
With Pete missing in action, Kyle’s permanent status on the roster ensures he will be right in the thick of the search party. The showrunners have structured Season 6 a bit differently to handle the fallout, mapping out a unique rollout schedule for the upcoming television year. CBS is skipping the usual autumn weekly rollout in favor of two massive, hour-long holiday events.
Fans will get a Halloween special and a Christmas special designed to directly answer what happened to Pete. The standard block of Season 6 episodes will officially premiere in the midseason winter/spring slot, allowing the narrative to stretch out after the initial holiday rescue mission.
A New Dynamic for Woodstone Mansion
Expanding Feldman's role is a massive win for the series consistency. The comedy always shines brightest when the living have to balance the absurd demands of the dead with the realities of paying a mortgage. Kyle acts as an excellent foil for Jay, who still cannot see a single ghost and is forced to trust two different mediums about what is happening in his own living room.
The writers have managed to keep a high-concept comedy fresh by refusing to let the premise stagnate. Bringing Kyle into the main fold opens up fresh comedic avenues, new pairings, and double the supernatural interventions.
What are your predictions for Kyle? Do you think he will be the one to locate Pete before the Christmas special? Let us know in the comments.
