General Hospital Weekly Recap: Jason Quits Sonny, Willow Is Drugged and Carly and Valentin Get Close

Port Charles gave us courtroom warfare, family milestones, questionable alliances, romantic maneuvering and one very big breakup this week on General Hospital. No, Sonny and Jason are not fighting over who forgot their anniversary. Jason Morgan officially told Sonny Corinthos that he can no longer work for him, potentially ending one of the most important partnerships in GH history. And before everyone could finish processing that one, Sonny revealed that he may be ready to leave “the business” himself.

Meanwhile, Brook Lynn and Chase finally made Phoebe Jacqueline Chase their daughter, Willow’s increasingly aggressive battle against Michael took a dangerous turn after Jacinda drugged her, and Trina’s new career dreams came with an unwanted side of stalker nightmare fuel. Oh, and Josslyn apparently owns a multibillion-dollar company now. Sure. Why not?

Jason’s decision to walk away from Sonny was easily one of the biggest developments of the week. After years of loyalty, violence, rescues, disappearances and enough mob drama to fill several lifetimes, Jason told Sonny that he cannot work for him anymore. Jason later opened up to Tracy about the trouble and worry he caused his parents and admitted that he wants to become the father to Danny that he knows he should be. Tracy assured him that his parents understood and would be proud of him, giving Jason’s decision even more emotional weight.

Dante naturally worried about what Jason’s departure would mean for Sonny, but Sonny had another surprise waiting. He told his son that he plans to walk away from the business, too. Sonny Corinthos voluntarily leaving the mob life? We’ll believe it when we see it, but that is one mighty big statement.

While Jason was thinking about fatherhood, Brook Lynn and Chase were officially becoming parents. Alexis arrived at the Quartermaine mansion with the paperwork needed to finalize Phoebe’s adoption, and after a little worrying from Brook Lynn, the papers were signed. Phoebe Jacqueline Chase is officially their adopted daughter, and Alexis assured the couple that they do not have to worry about Phoebe’s biological father coming back to take her away.

Well... about that.

Phoebe’s biological father, Hudson Parker, found Ethan in Oslo, Norway, and the reunion definitely did not include waffles and sightseeing. Hudson and Ethan fought over Delilah and her whereabouts, with Hudson discovering that she had a baby. An injured Ethan called Ava afterward and made her promise never to reveal anything about Phoebe.

Hudson then returned to Port Charles, where he was already watching Ava from across the Metro Court Gardens. Josslyn approached him and learned that Hudson supposedly serves as Vice President of Operations at Jasper Jacks Enterprises.

Then came the whopper: according to Hudson, Jax has named Josslyn CEO of his multibillion-dollar company while he travels the world on his sailboat and remains unreachable.

Excuse us? Joss went for a workout and came back a CEO. Is Hudson telling the truth, or is somebody running a scam? Because this entire thing deserves several raised eyebrows.

Trina also had plenty happening this week, beginning with a major graduation gift from Ava. Trina recently graduated, although we apparently were not invited to the big celebration because there wasn’t one. Trina explained that she was not in the right headspace for it, but Ava was not about to let the milestone go completely unnoticed. She offered Trina a partnership in the gallery, which is HUGE. Trina did not accept for now because she has another dream in sight, but she asked whether she could continue working at the gallery part-time. Ava eagerly agreed, telling her it would guarantee an income until Trina becomes a big shining star known worldwide.

That star dream, however, already has complications. Simon is thrilled with Trina and Gio’s musical potential and told Brook Lynn that he has big plans for them, but his marketing team mistakenly believes Trina and Gio are a couple and has already built a campaign around that idea. Simon was noticeably cold toward Kai and ordered Brook Lynn to fix the situation.

As if an accidental fake romance were not enough, Trina’s stalker situation is becoming downright disturbing. More recent photos have been added to the mysterious Trina collage, and Kai was deliberately cropped out of the latest one. Somebody is watching Trina closely, and whoever it is does not appear particularly thrilled about Kai being in the picture. Literally.

Trina, Kai, Gio and Emma tried to take their minds off the drama with game night at Emma’s place, although Trina knew her friends were really trying to distract her from Curtis’ trial. She also overheard part of Nina’s conversation with Jack Brennan, leaving her concerned about Drew’s shooting and what she and Kai know.

The Curtis and Isaiah courtroom battle finally got underway, and Portia once again had the pleasure of watching her personal life become courtroom material. Because apparently no Port Charles trial is complete until somebody drags Portia’s relationships onto the witness stand.

Martin attempted to negotiate a plea deal after learning ADA Turner was away on another case, while Lucas testified for the prosecution about Dr. Gannon’s injured hand. Portia’s testimony made Curtis look bad, and Martin’s cross-examination once again raised her supposed marital infidelity. This time, Portia pushed back.

Outside the courtroom, things were hardly calmer. Curtis and Isaiah clashed, with Lucas and Detective Fitzpatrick arriving in time for Lucas to cool things down. Curtis later stopped Portia and Isaiah and demanded to see his son. Eventually, Curtis and Portia agreed that whatever happens in court needs to stay there so Little Desmond does not have to live inside their battle. A very good idea, considering Desmond Robinson Ashford spent the week being entirely too adorable to be bothered with any of these grown folks’ problems.

The jury is now out, and both Curtis and Isaiah acknowledged that things could become worse depending on who gets the verdict they want. Jordan was also less than thrilled with Molly after court, giving her a noticeably cool response when the two ran into each other at the Metro Court Pool.

Drew, meanwhile, continues what can only be described as his Revenge Tour. He apologized to Curtis for destroying their friendship and offered to testify on Curtis’ behalf, but Drew being Drew, there appears to be more happening beneath the surface. Is this really about helping Curtis, or is getting back at Willow part of the plan?

Drew also met with Ava at the Metro Court Gardens after she invited him there, and the two appeared ready to establish an alliance against Sonny Corinthos. Ava teaming with Drew against Sonny certainly was not on our bingo card, but here we are.

Willow’s war with Michael also took an uglier turn. She served Jacinda with a restraining order and ordered her to stay away from her children. Nina worried that Willow’s move would only provoke Michael further, and she had a point. Michael told Jacinda that he and his lawyers would fight Willow’s actions, believing Willow is abusing the power of her office and that this is merely the first step in her attempt to get sole custody of the children.

But Jacinda had a move of her own, and it was much worse. After receiving pills from a reluctant Ezra, Jacinda slipped one into Willow’s iced coffee. A drugged Willow then drove her children to an arcade. Jacinda later flashed back to what she had done, and Michael confronted her, demanding to know exactly what she did to Willow.

This custody battle was already ugly. Drugging Willow and putting the children in potential danger just sent it somewhere else entirely.

Serena Baldwin also entered Michael’s orbit after Lucy encouraged her daughter to choose her most seductive swimsuit and get Michael’s attention. Mother of the year advice? Debatable. Effective? Well, Serena and Michael definitely started flirting at the Metro Court Pool. Serena’s initial attempt hit a small snag when she slipped on a wet spot and landed in Jack Brennan’s arms, but she eventually got her opportunity with Michael. Serena also seems quite interested in his Deception shares, so we’re keeping one eye on this situation.

Elsewhere, Josslyn continued dealing with pain and flashbacks from being shot and the Faison Project incident on Spoon Island. She also warned Jack that Nina could become a liability, even giving him a little history lesson about Nina’s past behavior. Jack was not particularly interested, especially since Nina had just accepted his dinner invitation.

Anna had her own relationship headaches. After seeing Valentin and Carly kissing, she got a little ghostly commentary courtesy of Peter August whispering in her ear. Anna later chastised Valentin over getting his assets unfrozen and delivered some bad news to Carly: it is too late to get Josslyn out of the WSB.

Brook Lynn’s happy week with Phoebe came with one major secret hanging over her marriage. She promised Tracy that she would lie to Chase about her involvement in Jordan’s car accident because she believes telling him the truth would jeopardize her family. Tracy tried distracting Brook Lynn by booking a New York City hotel suite for the family, but Brook Lynn knew exactly what her grandmother was doing.

Ric also spent part of the week watching Dante and Elizabeth from a distance as they discussed the softball game and Rocco. Naturally, Ric eventually wandered over to take a shot at Dante before later asking Elizabeth out on a date. Dante and Elizabeth had a more serious conversation about what happened with Rocco, with Dante admitting that he worries about compromising his job again to save someone he loves. Both knew that, faced with the same situation, they would probably do it again.

There were a few other developments worth watching. Detective Fitzpatrick survived a heated courtroom cross-examination and later met with Anna, who officially welcomed him to the department. Laura met with Lucy at Bobbie’s, where Lucy wanted information about Kevin’s return. Liesl, Nina and Willow toasted Willow’s freedom from Drew before Willow’s week went spectacularly downhill, while Marshall stayed away from the courtroom and spent time with his very adorable grandson instead.

But the biggest shifts this week could have consequences for months to come. Jason is finished working for Sonny and wants to put Danny first. Sonny says he is ready to leave the business himself. Phoebe officially has Brook Lynn and Chase as her parents just as her biological father has resurfaced. Trina has a potential career waiting at Ava’s gallery, a music opportunity with Gio and a stalker getting closer. Willow and Michael’s custody battle has become dangerous, and Hudson Parker has returned with a claim that could completely change Josslyn’s future.

And somewhere in all of this, Ava and Drew decided teaming up against Sonny sounded like a good idea. Port Charles, you never disappoint.
