Two people with foreheads touching, eyes closed, conveying an intimate and emotional connection. Simple, muted background.

Episode 4 of Gen V has dropped on Prime Video & I’ve been counting down the minutes since the Premiere set of episodes dropped. We get dropped right back into the story this week, we’re inching closer to Cipher pitting Marie and Jordan against each other as a punishment for Jordan speaking out about what happened to Cate. I think that storyline was the strongest one of this week’s episode, it felt like it things were really ramping up all around, but the pacing this week just felt a bit off to me. Nonetheless, Marie & Jordan were truly everything this week (who’s surprised there?). I think as we’re delving more into this Cipher storyline and figuring out how be became who he is today, I continue to get more scared of him by the minute.

This whole episode I was focused on, “How are they going to get out of this? Who’s going to take Cipher down?” And Marie suggests that they use Cate to get closer and find out more. Jordan is very hesitant to this at first, but ultimately goes along with it. Marie has her training with Cipher and he tells her to use her body to feel her powers instead of directing the blood with her hand, and at first it’s a bit of a struggle but she really gets the hang of it quickly. With how strong she is getting, I’m interested to see what Cipher’s true plan is. Currently, he is outsmarting everyone and is almost always 2 steps ahead, but if Marie gets the upper hand, it’s over for him.

I feel like our only other main plotline this episode is Emma working with Ally and Harper to shake things up at God U & also developing and bonding their characters more. I really enjoyed this, as I mentioned last week, I’m loving Emma’s POV this season and seeing her truly grow into her own. This is just my opinion and I could totally be wrong about this, but I feel like they are definitely chem testing Emma with Harper AND Ally’s Brother. I don’t know where that will go, but I’m curious and excited to see her potentially paired with someone outside of Sam. Speaking of Sam, he was essentially completely absent from this episode. It does feel a bit strange that he is not really involved in one of the biggest storylines this season, but I do feel like whatever his storyline is going to be this season is going to be the other big storyline of Season 2.

Marie and Jordan end up getting Cate and Emma to help them with their plan to learn more about Cipher so they can get an advantage against him. We get a little side moment between Cate & Jordan as they break into Cipher’s house that I thought was really nice and I’m really enjoying seeing them attempt to regrow their bond they had. Jordan also finally figures out that the incident affected Cate’s powers. While in the previous episode, she could not use her powers at all, now she can use them but they aren’t working to their full extent. She could tell someone to do something and they will get that done, but the means are completely different. So we’re at an unpredictable point with Cate’s powers, but I hope that she is able to regain them and grow stronger throughout this season. Once getting into the house, Cate and Jordan discover a man who is pretty mangled inside of a pod. Which leaves us wondering who this man is and why Cipher has him? Later in the episode, Cate meets with Cipher during the JordanMarie fight, Emma shrinks down to get in the room to plant a camera for evidence, and all is going according to plan. But of course, Cipher figures it all out and foils the plan. But this led to the biggest shock for me.

The last point and the biggest one for me is Marie & Jordan’s fight.

We finally get to this moment & we can see that Jordan is very uncomfortable and uneasy in the ring; Marie walks up to them and kisses them to calm them down, I thought this was so sweet and I loved seeing Marie comfort them just by understanding their body language. Once Cipher figures out the plan, he begins to control Jordan and make them fight Marie. This was really hard to watch because Jordan clearly didn’t want to hurt Marie at all & it was only happening because Cipher took full autonomy of their body. Marie doesn’t want to, but, she ends up using her blood bending powers to lift Jordan off of herself. Truly, I’m scared to see what is going to happen to everyone throughout the remainder of Season 2 with Cipher controlling so many people and things.

Overall, I did really enjoy the episode & I feel like it ramped the story up for next week. I can’t wait to see where things go in the last half of the season & where we will end up. I would give this episode 4/5 stars.
