Just when you thought Ryan Murphy had run out of historical tragedies to glamorize, FX has swooped in to remind us that the '90s were more than just flannel shirts and dial-up internet. They were also the era of the ultimate "It Couple" and their inevitable, slow-motion collision with destiny. Put on your best minimalist slip dress and grab a headband, because FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette has officially set its premiere date for February 12, 2026.
A Valentine’s Date with Destiny
Nothing says "romance" like a relationship defined by paparazzi high-speed chases and the crushing weight of a political dynasty. FX is leaning into the irony by launching the nine-episode limited series just two days before Valentine’s Day. The show serves as the flagship for Murphy’s new Love Story anthology—because apparently, American Crime Story and American Horror Story didn't have enough heartbreak.
The premiere will be a triple-threat event, dropping the first three episodes at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FX and Hulu simultaneously. For those across the pond or up north, Disney+ will be the home for this exercise in tragic chic.
The Faces of 90s Royalty
Casting the "Sexiest Man Alive" and a Calvin Klein publicist who defined an entire aesthetic is no small feat. The production has tapped newcomer Paul Anthony Kelly to shoulder the burden of JFK Jr.’s hair and charisma. Opposite him, Sarah Pidgeon steps into the Narciso Rodriguez gowns of Carolyn Bessette.
The supporting cast is where the real scenery-chewing happens. Naomi Watts joins the Murphy-verse as a late-era Jackie Kennedy Onassis, presumably perfected with a soft whisper and a pair of oversized shades. Grace Gummer appears as Caroline Kennedy, while Alessandro Nivola pops in as Calvin Klein—because you can't tell a story about Carolyn without mentioning the man who helped make her a fashion icon.
More Than Just a Pretty Picture?
Based on Elizabeth Beller’s 2024 biography, Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, the series promises to look past the grainy paparazzi photos. It aims to dissect the relentless media scrutiny that turned their private struggles into public sport. Whether the show can balance the "snarky" reality of the Upper East Side social scene with the gravity of their 1999 plane crash remains to be seen.
Expect a heavy dose of '90s nostalgia, from the minimalist fashion of the Bessette era to the high-stakes politics of the Kennedy clan.
The Verdict Before the Vows
Will this be a thoughtful exploration of fame and pressure, or just another excuse for Ryan Murphy to dress up actors in expensive vintage clothing? Either way, we'll be watching. Mark your calendars for February 12, and prepare to revisit the tragic allure of the Kennedy's final act.
