Fourth Wing TV Series Casts Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya as Violet and Xaden

The dragons are getting ready to take flight, and Prime Video has finally found the two stars who will lead its highly anticipated Fourth Wing adaptation. After plenty of fan casting, online debates, and wish lists, the roles of Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson have reportedly been filled. Now comes the real challenge: bringing one of BookTok's favorite romances to television without sending the fandom into a frenzy.
Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya are set to star as Violet and Xaden, respectively, in the upcoming fantasy drama based on Rebecca Yarros' bestselling Empyrean novels. The casting marks a major step forward for an adaptation that has been generating excitement since Amazon MGM Studios first acquired the rights in 2023.
Meet the New Violet and Xaden
McGregor, who appeared in Prime Video's We Were Liars, will take on the role of Violet Sorrengail, a young woman whose plans for a quieter life are completely derailed when her powerful mother orders her to enter Basgiath War College.
Instead of pursuing her dream of becoming a scribe, Violet must compete to become a dragon rider at a military academy where surviving the training is far from guaranteed. Between dangerous challenges, ruthless classmates, and dragons that aren't exactly known for their patience, Violet has her work cut out for her.
Sakraya, whose credits include Warrior Nun and Those About to Die, will portray Xaden Riorson, the mysterious and formidable dragon rider whose relationship with Violet becomes one of the story's central attractions. And if there's one thing romantasy fans take seriously, it's getting their fictional love interests right. The chemistry between Violet and Xaden will undoubtedly be one of the biggest talking points when the adaptation finally arrives.

Bringing Fourth Wing to Prime Video
Fourth Wing follows Violet as she navigates the deadly world of Basgiath War College, where alliances are complicated, enemies are everywhere, and falling for the wrong person could make an already dangerous situation even worse. The television adaptation comes from Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan's Outlier Society, with Jordan serving as an executive producer. Meredith Averill, whose credits include The Haunting of Hill House and Locke & Key, serves as showrunner, while Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy is attached to direct the premiere.
The series received an official series order earlier this year, giving fans another reason to believe their long-awaited trip to Basgiath is getting closer. There's still no announced premiere date, but casting the two central characters is a significant development. With the leads now in place, attention will likely turn to the rest of the ensemble and how the production plans to bring Yarros' dragon-filled world to life.
For fans who have spent years imagining Violet and Xaden on their screens, the wait just got a little more interesting. Now the question is whether McGregor and Sakraya can deliver the chemistry, intensity, and emotional chaos that made these characters so popular in the first place.
