First Look: My Brother the Minotaur Brings Myth, Mystery, and Family Adventure to Apple TV This April

Four animated characters in a forest. One holds an orange umbrella, another a camera. They wear colorful outfits, exuding curiosity.

Apple TV is diving headfirst into mythology with a family-friendly twist. The platform has unveiled a first look at My Brother the Minotaur, a brand-new animated adventure series set to premiere globally on April 24, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the more intriguing additions to the kids and family lineup this year.

Landing on Apple TV, the series centers on a young minotaur, half boy, half bull, who has been raised in the human world. While that alone is enough to spark curiosity (and probably a few awkward school days), the story quickly expands into a larger mystery about his origins and destiny. With the help of his loyal human brother and a tight-knit group of friends, he sets out to uncover the truth about his past all while facing off against looming dark forces that would rather keep those secrets buried.

The premise taps into familiar but effective themes: identity, belonging, and the universal feeling of being just a little bit different. It’s the kind of emotional backbone that tends to resonate across age groups, giving the series the potential to appeal to both younger viewers and the adults watching alongside them.

Behind the scenes, there’s serious creative credibility. The show comes from Cartoon Saloon, the Academy Award-nominated studio known for its visually distinctive storytelling and children’s media company Dog Ears. That combination suggests a strong emphasis on both artistic quality and meaningful storytelling.

The voice cast also adds some notable star power. Rising talents like Ely Solan, Billy Jenkins, Luciana Akpobaro, and Billie Boullet lead the charge, joined by an impressive lineup that includes Michael Sheen, Brian Cox, Paul Kaye, and T’Nia Miller. For a kids’ series, that’s a cast that definitely raises eyebrows, in a good way.

Created by Donal Mangan and directed by Maurice Joyce, the series blends folklore, adventure, and mystery into what looks like a character-driven journey about discovering where you truly belong. It’s a concept that feels both timeless and timely, especially as family programming continues to lean into more layered, emotionally grounded storytelling.

With its first look now out in the wild, My Brother the Minotaur is positioning itself as a visually rich, story-forward addition to Apple TV’s growing slate of original programming. Whether it becomes the next must-watch family hit remains to be seen but for now, it’s definitely one to keep on the radar.

Mark the calendar for April 24 because this mythical coming-of-age story might just have some real bite.
