Fire Country Season 5 Premiere Recap: Who Opened Fire at Station 42?

Spoilers ahead for Season 5, Episode 1, “Founders' Day.”
Edgewater really cannot catch a break. Fire Country returned for its fifth season on Friday, October 9, and what should have been a peaceful Founders' Day celebration turned into another disaster. Between a massive sinkhole, some complicated
family dynamics, and a shocking final scene, the CBS drama wasted no time throwing everyone back into chaos.
Another Disaster Hits Edgewater
The celebration takes a dangerous turn when a sinkhole opens beneath Main Street, trapping residents underground and sending Station 42 into rescue mode. Bode and the team spring into action, receiving unexpected assistance from CJ Ryan (Olivia Thirlby), a former firefighter whose past remains something of a mystery.
Meanwhile, Sharon returns with troubling news about Station 42's finances. Bode suggests reviving Edgewater's volunteer firefighter program, an idea that could help the department while rebuilding trust with residents who haven't been particularly happy with the firefighters lately.
Family Drama Comes Knocking
Over at Three Rock, Manny gets an unwelcome surprise when his nephew Angel arrives as a new inmate. With Angel's father, Ricardo, serving a life sentence for murder, Manny has plenty of reasons to question his nephew's intentions. Eve is more willing to give Angel a chance, but Manny isn't convinced that his friendly demeanor tells the whole story.
Elsewhere, Jake learns that Violet might be pregnant, introducing another potentially life-changing development for the newly married couple. Whether they're preparing for parenthood remains uncertain, but the possibility gives them something significant to consider.
That Ending Changes Everything
Just when Edgewater seems to have survived another chaotic day, the premiere delivers its biggest shock. Following Bode's speech about believing in the community, an unidentified shooter opens fire inside the firehouse, sending everyone scrambling for safety.
The episode ends with plenty of unanswered questions, particularly regarding who targeted Station 42 and why. While showrunner Eric Guggenheim has confirmed that nobody suffers physical injuries, the emotional fallout promises to create new challenges for the firefighters.
Between the mysterious shooting, CJ's arrival, and the growing tensions at Three Rock, Fire Country has already given Edgewater enough problems to last an entire season. And knowing this town, things probably aren't getting easier anytime soon.
