STARZ is stepping back into the ring, literally with its upcoming original series Fightland, and the first-look images suggest viewers are in for a bruising blend of boxing glory and criminal underworld politics. Slated to premiere on July 31, the series arrives with heavyweight expectations thanks to executive producer Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson and his G-Unit Film & Television banner.
Set in London’s unforgiving boxing and crime landscape, Fightland wastes no time throwing punches. The story centers on Duke Kilroy, a once-celebrated heavyweight champion whose life implodes following a violent tragedy that sends him spiraling into prison and, eventually, revenge. When he returns home years later, he isn’t just stepping back into society, he’s stepping straight into a web of betrayal, missing power players, and a criminal empire that has evolved without him.
The newly released first-look photos lean heavily into atmosphere: dimly lit boxing gyms, tense family standoffs, and characters who look like they’ve all got something to lose and something to hide. It’s stylish without feeling polished, which feels intentional. Nothing here screams comfort viewing.
At the center of the series is Howard Charles as Duke Kilroy, with Nicholas Pinnock playing Kingsley Marshall, the former promoter-turned-crime kingpin whose disappearance sets the entire story in motion. Deborah Ayorinde also stands out as Joy Marshall, caught in the emotional crossfire of past love and present survival. The cast also includes Anita-Joy Uwajeh, Charles Babalola, Tahirah Sharif, Tyler Conti, and Richard Pepple, rounding out a lineup that feels deliberately stacked with tension-ready characters.
Behind the scenes, Fightland benefits from a strong creative team, including showrunners Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith, with direction from Otto Bathurst, known for sharp, visually driven storytelling.
As part of the evolving slate from STARZ, Fightland fits neatly into the network’s push toward self-owned, character-driven dramas that blend emotional stakes with high-impact storytelling. And with boxing as its backdrop, the series leans into themes of control, legacy, and survival both inside and outside the ring.
For viewers, the appeal is straightforward: a fallen champion with unfinished business, a criminal empire full of shifting loyalties, and a return that guarantees nothing will stay buried for long. If the first-look images are any indication, Fightland is less about clean victories and more about what people are willing to destroy in pursuit of them.
Fightland premieres July 31 on STARZ, with new episodes rolling out weekly.
