Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom are reuniting, but don't expect Frodo and Legolas to go chasing another ring. This time, they're stepping into Guy Ritchie's wonderfully chaotic world of crime, money, and questionable decisions. Netflix has confirmed that both The Lord of the Rings stars are joining Season 3 of The Gentlemen, and suddenly Eddie Horniman's already complicated life is about to get a whole lot more interesting.

The casting announcement arrived Friday, October 23, alongside confirmation that production is underway in the United Kingdom and Morocco. Wood and Bloom aren't the only big names joining the party, either. Robert Carlyle is also coming aboard, giving the Netflix crime comedy an impressive injection of star power.

From Middle-earth to the Criminal Underworld

It's been more than two decades since Wood and Bloom became household names playing Frodo Baggins and Legolas in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Now, they're sharing the spotlight again, although their new characters probably won't be quite as interested in saving the world.

Netflix hasn't revealed who either actor will play, which leaves plenty of room for speculation. Will they be allies, enemies, or two more unfortunate souls caught up in Eddie's increasingly dangerous empire? Considering the kind of trouble this show attracts, we wouldn't recommend either of them getting too comfortable.

Carlyle, whose credits include Trainspotting and Line of Duty, is another intriguing addition. Joining the trio are Dexter Fletcher, Bruna Marquezine, Ed Speleers, Saffron Burrows, Bugzy Malone, and Philip Arditti. Details about the newcomers' characters remain under wraps, but it's clear that the series isn't holding back when it comes to expanding its cast.

Eddie and Susie Are Taking Their Empire International

Of course, The Gentlemen wouldn't be The Gentlemen without Theo James and Kaya Scodelario, who are returning as Eddie Horniman and Susie Glass. And judging by the Season 3 premise, these two have learned absolutely nothing about keeping their ambitions within reasonable limits.

The upcoming season will follow Eddie and Susie as they attempt to establish a casino in the Middle East. Because when your criminal enterprise is already dangerous enough, why not expand into international gambling and introduce an entirely new collection of people who might want you dead?

The story will explore whether Eddie's growing hunger for power has finally pushed him too far. After Season 2 took his criminal ambitions to another level, the new venture sounds like another opportunity for everything to spectacularly unravel.

Returning cast members also include Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Jasmine Blackborow, Harry Goodwins, Benjamin Clementine, and Maya Jama. With familiar faces returning and so many newcomers entering the picture, Eddie and Susie's business empire is getting crowded.

But There's One Familiar Face We Won't Be Seeing

While Netflix is welcoming plenty of new talent, one notable cast member won't be returning. Daniel Ings, who played Eddie's troubled older brother Freddy Horniman during the first two seasons, is departing ahead of Season 3.

Freddy brought a particularly unhinged energy to the series, so his absence will certainly be felt. Between his spectacularly poor decisions and his talent for turning an already disastrous situation into something worse, he was practically a walking public relations nightmare.

The series will now have to navigate Eddie's family dynamics without that particular source of chaos. Fortunately, given this show's track record, finding trouble has never been especially difficult. Whether someone else will step up to fill Freddy's chaotic shoes remains to be seen, but we wouldn't bet against it.

When Will The Gentlemen Season 3 Premiere?

Netflix hasn't announced a premiere date, but production is officially moving forward, with eight hour-long episodes planned. Guy Ritchie is returning as creator, writer, and director, continuing to expand the criminal universe that began with his 2019 film. The biggest question now is how Wood, Bloom, and Carlyle will fit into the story. Whether they're playing ruthless criminals, wealthy business associates, or something entirely unexpected, their arrival gives the upcoming season plenty of potential.

And while seeing Frodo and Legolas reunited is exciting enough, watching them navigate the dangerous and frequently ridiculous world of The Gentlemen might be even better. Just don't expect anybody to emerge from this adventure with their hands clean. The first two seasons of The Gentlemen are streaming on Netflix, giving fans plenty of time to catch up before Eddie and Susie's next international disaster begins.
