Get ready for a cosmic spectacle as “Doctor Who” Season 2 Episode 6, titled “The Interstellar Song Contest,” takes fans on a genre-bending ride packed with music, mayhem, and mystery. In this episode recap, we dive into the episode’s highlights, twists, and what it means for the future of the series.
‘Doctor Who’ Season 2 Episode 6
A Space-Age Eurovision with Deadly Stakes
“The Interstellar Song Contest” delivers exactly what the title promises: a futuristic homage to Eurovision, complete with dazzling performances, galactic pageantry, and a sinister undercurrent. The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and companion Ruby Sunday (Varada Sethu) land on Harmony Arena, a floating concert venue in the year 2925, to witness the 803rd Interstellar Song Contest.
But it’s not all glitz and glam—chaos erupts when two Hellions, Kid and Wynn Aura-Kin, hijack the broadcast, shut down the oxygen dome, and put the lives of every performer and guest in jeopardy.
Old Enemies, New Twists, and an Emotional Vision
As the Doctor is sucked into the vacuum of space, he experiences a vision of his granddaughter, Susan Foreman—a poignant callback for long-time fans. Using a confetti cannon to re-enter the arena (in true “Doctor Who” fashion), he regroups with nurse Mike Gabbastone, technician Gary, and Ruby to foil the villains' plan.
It turns out Kid is seeking vengeance for his home planet, Hellia, which was exploited by a corrupt Corporation. His weapon of choice? A deadly Delta Wave. But with help from contest hopeful Cora Saint Bavier—who has her own Hellion roots—the Doctor neutralizes the threat just in time.

A Poignant Ending and a Major Cliffhanger
The episode ends on a high note—literally—as Cora performs a moving tribute to her destroyed planet. But the celebration is short-lived. A hologram of Graham Norton ominously announces Earth’s destruction on May 24, 2025—the same day Ruby was taken. Just as the TARDIS prepares to depart, a mysterious explosion rips through the doors, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats.
To top it off, Mrs. Flood is revealed as the Rani, a classic Doctor Who villain, through a jaw-dropping bi-generation transformation.
A Bold, Genre-Mashing Adventure
“Doctor Who” Season 2 Episode 6 succeeds as both a musical spectacle and a dark political allegory, tackling themes of capitalism, cultural erasure, and identity with flair and heart. It’s a standout episode that pushes the boundaries of what Doctor Who can be while setting the stage for an explosive two-part season finale.
