'Doctor Odyssey' Season 1 Episode 18 "The Wave, Part 1" Recap

Updated: 4 days ago

Two officers in uniform in a ship's control room. Left one in white, right one in navy, tipping hat. Control panel with screens in view.

Tonight’s episode of Doctor Odyssey brought the drama — and the aftershocks. Literally. Much like its sister show 9-1-1 (yep, they’re officially in the same universe), Doctor Odyssey threw us headfirst into a natural disaster. This time? An earthquake strikes while Max is assisting a passenger on land, which leads to the guest tearing their ACL (lame injury choice, but we’ll roll with it). As Max scrambles to get the injured guest and a few other stragglers back to the ship, he runs into a serious problem: the cruise ship cannot wait. A tsunami warning means it's time to move or be swallowed by the sea. Trouble on the high seas indeed.

Back on board, it’s pure chaos. The crew and passengers are getting tossed like salad — panic, falling light fixtures, and a general sense of doom fill every corridor. Is it just me, or is this giving major 9-1-1 cruise episode vibes? While everyone else is fighting for survival, Tristan decides it's the perfect moment to have the “what are we?” talk with Avery. Really, Tristan? Now? If she chooses Max, then maybe she wasn’t yours to begin with. In the immortal words of Keke Palmer, “the storyline has run stale.”

Meanwhile, Max’s radio goes completely silent, and Massey tosses the rulebook overboard (metaphorically) to go find him. Unfortunately, the aftershock has other plans. Max is MIA, Tristan is emotionally spiraling, and Massey might be in hot water with the cruise line brass. Just another average day aboard The Odyssey.

Listen, I am just filling in for Allexus this week - she loves this show so forgive my non-euthatism but I am not shocked that ABC hasn’t decided to renew yet.
