Dexter Morgan is coming back just in time for Halloween. Paramount+ has announced that Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will premiere Friday, October 30, bringing Michael C. Hall back as the serial killer who just can’t seem to stay away from trouble or other killers.
The announcement also comes with the first official teaser for the new season and arrives during a milestone year for the franchise. Two decades after Dexter first introduced viewers to Dexter Morgan and his infamous Code, the franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary with another chapter that appears ready to put Dexter in one of his most complicated situations yet.
Dexter Will Be Caught Between Two Killers in Season 2
Season 2 finds Dexter facing threats from opposite ends of the serial-killer spectrum. According to Paramount+, he becomes caught between two killers: one with decades of notoriety and a lifetime of victims behind him, and another described as a fresh young face who is terrorizing New York in ways no one has seen before.
Apparently two killers aren't enough to keep Dexter busy, either. The new season will also give him an enemy he may have considerably less experience handling: a mid-life crisis. After everything Dexter has survived over the years, watching him attempt to navigate something almost painfully ordinary could provide an interesting contrast to the considerably darker problems surrounding him.
Harrison Morgan will have his own journey to navigate as well. Jack Alcott returns as Dexter's son, who continues pursuing his own version of justice while father and son head into what Paramount+ describes as their “darkest chapter yet.”
Michael C. Hall Leads a Returning Cast
Hall once again leads the series as Dexter Morgan, with several familiar faces returning alongside him. Uma Thurman, Jack Alcott, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Desmond Harrington and James Remar are all confirmed to return for the second season.
Season 2 is also bringing some major additions into Dexter's world. Dan Stevens, Bokeem Woodbine, Nona Parker Johnson and Brian Cox have joined the cast as series regulars, while Gabriel Luna will appear as a guest star.
Krysten Ritter is also returning in a guest-starring role. Paramount+ isn't revealing exactly how all of these characters factor into the battle between Dexter and the season's two killers just yet, leaving plenty for the series to reveal as the October premiere approaches.
Dexter Returns 20 Years After the Original Series Premiered
Clyde Phillips returns as showrunner and executive producer for Season 2, with Hall also serving as an executive producer. Scott Reynolds, Marcos Siega, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Veronica West, Kirsa Rein, Tanner Bean and Katrina Mathewson are among the additional executive producers.
The new season comes from Paramount Television Studios and Counterpart Studios and continues a franchise that has expanded considerably since Dexter originally debuted in 2006. Between the original series, Dexter: New Blood, Dexter: Original Sin and now Resurrection, Dexter Morgan has managed to keep finding his way back onto television.
This time, Paramount+ is making sure he returns during the season that suits him best. Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 premieres Friday, October 30, exclusively on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan.
