Someone please check on Joe Washington because his life is absolutely never going to slow down. Paramount+ just dropped the highly anticipated season 2 trailer of Average Joe, and if you thought the first season was a stressful ride, you haven't seen anything yet. The dark comedy thriller starring Emmy-nominated comedian Deon Cole is back, but this time, the stakes are going international. Grab your passports, because our favorite accidentally criminal crew is heading straight to South Africa.
The brand-new footage proves that the series is doubling down on everything that made its debut run a sleeper hit, combining witty dialogue, life-or-death stakes, and ordinary people making terrible choices. When we last left Joe and the gang, they were barely surviving the bloody aftermath of dealing with the Russian mob. The new trailer reveals that instead of getting a well-deserved break, a mysterious new threat targeting Joe's family forces Joe, Leon, Cathy, and Touch to pack their bags and flee to Cape Town.
The change of scenery isn't exactly a luxury vacation. The trailer introduces Hakeem Kae-Kazim as Sipho, a powerful and ruthless Cape Town crime boss who immediately locks his sights on the group, threatening to upend their lives completely. We also get a first look at Katlego Lebogang as Imani, a young local woman holding secrets about Joe’s family history that completely shatter his understanding of his own past.
Watching the core four dodge foreign assassins and outrun bounty hunters through the streets of South Africa shows that the writers are refusing to let the momentum lag. The comedic chemistry between Deon Cole and Malcolm Barrett remains the secret weapon here, keeping the tone light even when the bullets are flying. Cynthia Kaye McWilliams and Michael Trucco also return, proving that this ensemble cast has lost none of its bite.
Fans will not have to wait long to see how this mess untangles. The eight-episode second season will premiere globally on Paramount+ on Wednesday, August 19, with a two-episode premiere at launch, followed by a traditional weekly release every Wednesday. The creative team behind the scenes remains rock solid, with Robb Cullen, Deon Cole, and executive producer McG returning to guide the ship in association with BET Studios and Wonderland Sound and Vision.
If the purpose of a trailer is to prove a show still has gas left in the tank, this look at the upcoming episodes succeeds wildly. It keeps the distinct, stressful charm of the freshman season while expanding the world in a way that feels organic rather than forced. Not us already counting down the days until August 19. If you love a fast-paced thriller that refuses to take itself too seriously, this looks like it will be your next mandatory weekly watch.
