Days of Our Lives Weekly Recap: Kristen and Sophia Return to Salem

Salem was filled with secrets, suspicious behavior, family drama, and emotional reunions this week on Days of Our Lives. Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) tracked down Sophia Choi (Rachel Boyd) and brought her back to Salem, Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) struggled with the accusations against Kristen, and Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) became increasingly suspicious of Joy Wesley (AlexAnn Hopkins). Meanwhile, Holly Jonas (Ashley Puzemis) found a new purpose, the Kiriakis family continued fighting to save their mansion, and Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) stepped up to help Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) and Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer). By Friday, Kristen had secretly made her way into the hospital to see Rachel Black (Lorelei Olivia Mote), setting the stage for another emotional showdown.
Kristen and Sophia Make a Dangerous Deal
In Paducah, Kentucky, Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) finally tracked down Sophia Choi (Rachel Boyd), who had been living under the name Amelia after surviving her supposed death. Sophia remembered falling into the river but did not remember Kristen striking her over the head. Kristen claimed she was relieved Sophia had survived and wanted to apologize, but Sophia wasn't about to accept her explanation without getting something in return.
Sophia reminded Kristen that she had never received the money she had been promised for helping her disappear. She also made it clear that she could take her information straight to EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel), who would undoubtedly be interested in learning what Kristen had done. Kristen insisted she was sorry for what happened, but Sophia knew that protecting herself had always been Kristen's priority. The two women eventually reached an agreement: Kristen would pay Sophia the money she owed her, and Sophia would keep their secrets.
Their negotiations took an unexpected turn when Kristen received news about Rachel. With her daughter still in the hospital, Kristen knew she had to return to Salem. She told Sophia that if she wanted her money, she would have to come along. Sophia was understandably reluctant to return to a town where she could face serious consequences for her past actions, but she eventually agreed to go with Kristen. Their alliance promised to create even more trouble for the people they had left behind.
Brady Turns Against Kristen
At the hospital, Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) received disturbing information about Kristen's involvement in the plot against Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman). After Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) filled him in on what Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) had learned, Brady began to see his former partner in a very different light. Kristen had allegedly encouraged Sophia to go after Johnny, and EJ believed she was responsible for putting his son's life in danger.
Brady admitted that he was inclined to believe the accusations. Although he had seen how frightened Kristen was when she left Salem, he now understood that her fear of EJ might have been connected to what she had done. The revelation was especially troubling because Rachel was already dealing with serious medical problems, and Brady had to consider whether Kristen's return would help or hurt their daughter.
Brady continued struggling with the decision of whether to contact Kristen about Rachel. He discussed the situation with Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), who urged him to be careful when dealing with Kristen. Brady wanted to do what was best for Rachel, but he also knew that allowing Kristen back into their lives could open the door to another round of manipulation and heartbreak. Unfortunately, Kristen was not the sort of mother who would simply accept being kept away from her child.
Stephanie Suspects Joy Is Hiding Something
Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) had growing concerns about Joy Wesley (AlexAnn Hopkins), and this week gave her even more reason to question what was really happening under Alex Kiriakis' (Robert Scott Wilson) roof. When Stephanie heard Kelsey crying and couldn't get a response from Joy, she rushed into the room to check on the baby. What she saw made her suspicious: Joy appeared to move her leg before quickly returning to her wheelchair.
Joy immediately challenged Stephanie for violating the custody agreement, and the confrontation left everyone on edge. Alex arrived in time to witness the tension, and he was not happy with the situation. After Stephanie left, he made it clear to Joy that things could not continue this way. He promised that Kelsey would always be cared for, but he also insisted that he and Joy needed to find another living arrangement.
Stephanie later confided in her mother, Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans), about what she thought she had witnessed. She wasn't completely certain that Joy had moved her leg, but the possibility was enough to make her wonder whether Joy's condition was exactly what she claimed it was. Stephanie was determined not to ignore her instincts, especially when her
marriage to Alex was already under strain.
As the week continued, Stephanie brought her suspicions directly to Alex, hoping he would take her concerns seriously. But Joy was not backing down, and her attention soon shifted toward another Salem resident. She began flirting with Tate Black (Leo Howard), creating the potential for even more complications. With Stephanie watching closely and Alex caught in the middle, Joy's next move could have serious consequences for everyone involved.
Holly Finds a New Purpose with Mason
Holly Jonas (Ashley Puzemis) received an unexpected offer from Mason Whitfield (Brandon Butler), who wanted to make amends for how he treated her. When the two met in Horton Town Square, Mason explained more about his personal history and why he had become involved in mental health advocacy. His experiences with a friend who struggled with mental health issues had left him wishing he could have done more to help, and that regret motivated him to support others.
Mason also acknowledged that he had unfairly blamed Holly for some of what happened with Sophia. After talking things through, he offered Holly the opportunity to train as a volunteer for a mental health hotline, where she could help people who were struggling. Rather than remaining consumed by guilt over Sophia's disappearance, Holly would have a chance to turn her painful experiences into something positive.
Holly accepted Mason's offer, and the two grew closer as the week progressed. Their conversations allowed them to see each other in a new light, with Mason showing a more understanding side and Holly beginning to consider a future beyond the turmoil surrounding Sophia. Of course, with Sophia now alive and heading back to Salem, Holly's newfound sense of purpose could soon collide with the very situation she has been trying to move beyond.
The Kiriakis Family Makes One Last Attempt to Save the Mansion
The fight to save the Kiriakis mansion continued as Philip Kiriakis (John-Paul Lavoisier) and Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) made one final push to protect their family's home. The prospect of losing the mansion carried enormous emotional weight, as it represented the Kiriakis family's history and legacy. Philip and Xander knew time was running out, and they were desperate to find a solution before it was too late.
Their efforts ultimately faced another setback when Dominic backed out of buying the mansion. The withdrawal left the family with even fewer options and raised serious questions about what would happen to the property. For Philip and Xander, the situation was more than a financial problem; it was a reminder of just how much the family's fortunes had changed.
Meanwhile, Maggie Kiriakis (Suzanne Rogers) found herself dealing with another family matter when she questioned Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes) about repeatedly using her as an excuse to cancel dates with Foster. Maggie's concern suggested that Julie might need to be more honest about what she wanted instead of hiding behind excuses. With the mansion situation growing more precarious, the Kiriakis family had plenty to worry about beyond their complicated personal relationships.
EJ and Chad Clash as Cat Faces Difficult Questions
Tensions between EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) and Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) continued to escalate as Chad searched for answers about what had been happening behind the scenes. Chad and Belle Black (Martha Madison) agreed that they needed to get answers from Dominic, hoping his information would help them understand the situation more clearly. Neither was willing to accept unanswered questions when so much was at stake.
EJ also found himself dealing with Cat Greene (AnnaLynne McCord), whom he tried to persuade to return to her former position as his assistant. His offer raised questions about whether Cat could trust him again and whether returning to his orbit would pull her into more DiMera drama. Before EJ made his pitch, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) put Cat on the hot seat, asking difficult questions that forced her to confront some uncomfortable issues.
The tension between EJ and Chad reached another level when Chad confronted his brother about his actions. Their disagreement reflected the ongoing mistrust within the DiMera family, where secrets and competing agendas have a way of turning even the closest relationships into battlegrounds. With Chad and Belle determined to investigate Dominic and EJ attempting to draw Cat back into his world, the questions surrounding the DiMeras were far from settled.
Roman Plans a Romantic Surprise for Kate
Amid Salem's many conflicts, Roman Brady (Josh Taylor) decided it was time to do something special for Kate Roberts Brady (Lauren Koslow). He planned a romantic gesture intended to surprise her, offering a welcome change from the secrets, confrontations, and family disputes consuming so many of their friends.
However, even the sweeter moments in Salem can feel temporary when trouble is brewing everywhere else. Roman's gesture provided an opportunity for him and Kate to reconnect, while the other residents of Salem continued dealing with the consequences of their own choices.
Lani Gets Life-Changing News
Lani Price (Sal Stowers) received unexpected news that could open the door to a fresh start. Jada Hunter (Elia Cantu) offered Lani the opportunity to return to the Salem Police Department and reclaim her former position as a detective. The offer was welcome news, but Lani wasn't immediately sure that returning to the force would be the right move.
Lani worried about how people in Salem might react to her return, given everything that had happened. Jada, however, believed in giving her the opportunity to move forward. Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) was also supportive, and Jada even raised the possibility of Shawn and Lani working together again. Their conversations included a reminder that the two had dated more than a decade ago, giving longtime fans a welcome callback to their history.
With the possibility of returning to the force, Lani had something meaningful to consider as she weighed her future and whether she was ready to step back into her old life.
Abe and Theo Prepare to Honor Lexie
Abe Carver (James Reynolds) and Theo Carver (Tyler Joseph Andrews) prepared to pay tribute to Lexie Carver (formerly played by Renée Jones), bringing a poignant family moment to a week filled with uncertainty. Their preparations offered a reminder of how deeply Lexie's memory continues to affect the people who loved her.
As Abe and Theo looked ahead to honoring Lexie, their storyline brought a more reflective tone to Salem's ongoing drama. While other families were fighting over secrets, relationships, and property, the Carvers were focused on remembering someone whose absence still mattered deeply.
Johnny Teams Up with Sarah and Xander
Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) and Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) continued trying to expose the truth, and Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) stepped forward to help them. Sarah appreciated learning that Xander was continuing his therapy, and she was proud of the effort he was making to work through his problems. Their emotional connection remained complicated, but his progress offered a hopeful moment amid the uncertainty surrounding them.
Johnny agreed to help Sarah and Xander uncover the truth, putting himself in a position to challenge his own father, EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel). Johnny's willingness to get involved showed that he was not prepared to let the situation go unanswered, particularly with questions about the danger he had faced and the people who might have been responsible.
With Johnny joining their efforts, Sarah and Xander gained an ally who had his own reasons for wanting answers. However, going up against EJ was unlikely to be simple, and their investigation could expose secrets that more than one person would prefer to keep buried.
Kristen Sneaks into Salem to See Rachel
Friday brought the week's biggest emotional turning point when Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) returned to Salem with Sophia Choi (Rachel Boyd). Kristen had one overriding goal: to see her daughter, Rachel Black (Lorelei Olivia Mote), who remained hospitalized. But Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) had serious reservations about allowing Kristen anywhere near Rachel after learning about her involvement in the plot against Johnny.
Brady discussed the situation with Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), who urged him to proceed carefully. He understood that Rachel wanted her mother, but he also feared the damage Kristen could cause if she were allowed back into their lives without consequences. Kristen, meanwhile, was unwilling to let Brady's objections stand in the way of seeing her child.
Determined to reach Rachel, Kristen disguised herself as a nurse and slipped into the hospital room. Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) discovered her at Rachel's bedside, but the situation became even more emotional when Rachel woke up and saw her mother. After spending so much time wanting Kristen, Rachel finally had the reunion she had been longing for, even though it happened under circumstances that could make everything worse.
Kristen's decision put Brady in an impossible position. He wanted to protect Rachel, but separating a sick child from the mother she desperately wanted was not an easy answer either. With Sarah discovering the secret visit and Rachel now awake, Kristen's return threatened to create a new battle between the parents.
Sophia's return added another layer of danger. She had come back to Salem with Kristen despite knowing that her past actions could catch up with her. Later, Sophia watched Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) with Trey from a distance. Trey was the son Sophia had given birth to and Johnny and Chanel Dupree DiMera (Raven Bowens) had adopted. Seeing her son again clearly brought difficult emotions to the surface, but Sophia remained unable to approach him openly.
Sophia's presence meant that the people of Salem could soon discover that she was alive, potentially reopening the painful events surrounding her disappearance and the attempt on Johnny's life. And with Kristen back in town, the secrets connecting these two women were in danger of unraveling.
My Final Thoughts
I am so proud of Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman)! His Brady side is shining bright, and I am here for it! Johnny wants to do the right thing, but he also wants to protect his father, EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel). That internal conflict makes him so much more interesting, and I really enjoyed watching him speak with Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) and Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer). He is trying to find the balance between doing what is right and remaining loyal to his family, and I am excited to see where that takes him.
I also must give the Days of Our Lives writers credit for keeping Sarah and Xander in the same orbit. These two have so much history, and keeping their paths intertwined allows us to continue enjoying their dynamic. Whether they are working together, dealing with their complicated feelings, or finding themselves on opposite sides of an issue, there is always something compelling about them. Smart move, Days!
Another thing I loved was the nod to history when Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) and Lani Price (Sal Stowers) acknowledged that they used to date more than a decade ago. As fans, WE LOVE THOSE NODS! It is such a treat when the writers remember these connections and allow characters to acknowledge their shared past. Those little moments make Salem feel like the living, breathing world we have been invested in for years. Please keep them coming!
Now, let me talk about Joy Wesley (AlexAnn Hopkins), because I am on HER side! I thought she played things smartly by flirting with Tate Black (Leo Howard) and being completely cool about wanting to move out of that small apartment. Honestly, can we blame her? She wants a better living situation for herself and her baby, and she rightfully believes that her baby's father should move into his family home. I am not mad at her for wanting more, and I appreciate that she is making moves instead of simply sitting around waiting for someone else to solve her problems. Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) may have suspicions, but I am enjoying Joy's willingness to play the game. I want to see how far she is willing to take things!
And finally, I am okay with having Sophia Choi (Rachel Boyd) back. I know I go back and forth with her, and I am not suddenly excusing everything she has done. However, when she started to cry, I found myself softening toward her. There was something about that emotional moment that made me look at her differently, even if only temporarily. Sophia is clearly carrying a lot of pain, and I am curious to see whether her return will give her a chance to grow or simply pull her deeper into the mess she created.
All in all, this was a week with some great character moments, meaningful callbacks to Salem's history, and plenty of complicated relationships to keep us talking. Johnny is making me proud, Sarah and Xander remain a pairing the writers should absolutely keep exploring, and Joy is giving me more to think about than I expected. And now that Kristen and Sophia are back in Salem, the drama is only getting started. Bring on next week!
