Mizu has kept us waiting long enough, and Netflix is finally giving fans a date to circle on their calendars. The Emmy-winning animated series Blue Eye Samurai returns for Season 2 on January 19, 2027, with six new episodes and a whole new country for its revenge-driven swordswoman to explore.

Netflix announced the premiere date Tuesday, November 3, exactly three years after the show's first season debuted. The streamer also released a new teaser offering another glimpse at Mizu's next chapter, which promises to take her far beyond the familiar world of Edo-period Japan.

Mizu's Revenge Takes Her to London

When we last saw Mizu, voiced by Maya Erskine, she was sailing toward London in pursuit of the two remaining men who might be her father. Season 2 picks up that journey in 1657 England, where her determination to get revenge will bring her into an unfamiliar society with dangers of its own. And if anyone thinks a new country means Mizu might finally calm down and make better life choices, they clearly haven't been paying attention.

Creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green have teased a London filled with criminal activity and strict social expectations, particularly for women. Mizu will also face a different kind of prejudice as she navigates being an Asian woman in 17th-century England, adding another layer to her complicated relationship with her identity. Meanwhile, the story won't completely abandon Japan. Akemi and Taigen will navigate the increasingly dangerous political environment at Edo Castle under a new shogun, while Ringo searches for his own purpose.

Familiar Voices and New Arrivals

Erskine returns alongside Brenda Song as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen, and Masi Oka as Ringo. The second season also introduces Jonathan Pryce as Old Violet, Joel Kim Booster as Priest Ando, and Sherry Cola as Kuma.

The new season has been a long time coming, with the creative team spending approximately three years bringing the next chapter to life. Considering the first season's stunning animation, elaborate fight sequences, and attention to historical detail, it's understandable why the production hasn't exactly been a quick turnaround.

But the premiere date isn't the only big news Netflix has shared about the show's future.

Blue Eye Samurai Will End With Season 3

Netflix has confirmed that Blue Eye Samurai will conclude with a third and final season in 2028. According to Noizumi and Green, they've known how Mizu's story should end since the beginning, and now they'll have the opportunity to bring that vision to the screen.

That means Season 2 isn't just another chapter in Mizu's revenge story. It's also setting the stage for the conclusion of a journey that began with a mysterious swordswoman determined to find the people responsible for her suffering. Whether Mizu gets the revenge she's been chasing or discovers something entirely different along the way remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: London probably isn't prepared for what's coming.

Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 premieres January 19, 2027, exclusively on Netflix. Season 1 is currently available to stream.
