Beyond the Gates Weekly Recap: An Engagement, an Arrest, and More Drama

Man at desk in a law office talks to a standing woman in a leopard-print suit, with framed diplomas and a tense mood.

This week on Beyond The Gates, one couple spreads good news while one half of another is arrested and charged. Eva gets in Kat’s face for no reason, and Heather skulks around town. Let’s discuss.

An Engagement

News of Ted and Nicole’s engagement spreads, reminding me how much Shanice’s character has been ruined for me. Grinning in Nicole face while flashing her ring was tacky and distasteful. She later gets insecure over Ted mentioning Nicole. This story comes off as though it was meant for June, but they slotted Shanice in her place.

Nicole is upset; she calls Dani, who comes running. In the end, she tells her she is happy for Ted, but he has moved on quickly enough to get married while she has barely committed to Kial. She feels left behind. Nicole, please, as much as I hate it, you still love that man. That is what has you so shaken by this news.

Nicole soothes herself by inviting Kial to move in. Ted blinks when he learns the news. Which says that he feels a way about it. The two of them are far from done with each other, and Shanice is collateral damage.

Damage Control

Smitty is booked as the search led to Jacob finding pills in his and Martin’s home that were the same pills used to kill Lia. Someone records the perp walk and that sets off a chain of events. Samantha is bullied for having a mother who is a crackhead and a dad who is a murderer. Martin has campaign woes and must to a press conference but it seems that the press conference is not enough. Stay tuned.

Vernon assumes Hayley was behind the leak when he sees her at Orphey’s. This leads to him telling Bill, who mentions it to Joey. All in all, Hayley just wanted some biscuits. I felt slightly bad for Hayley here. Not only was she reminded that they were watching her but Heather has her sights on her as well.

Later, Hayley finally gets Randy to come over, but he cannot be bothered and is still angry that she threw him under the bus. They agree to split the money from her divorce settlement. By the way, writers, how is the marriage legal? Bill is a brilliant mind; you mean to tell us that he cannot get out of the agreement because of fraud? She should have walked away with nothing.

Andre Snaps but Leslie Doesn’t

Kat delivers the news of Ted and Shanice getting engaged when Leslie decides to insert herself in Chelsea and Kat’s business. Leslie handles it well. Later, Eva joins her and Izaiah at The Uptown; she is back from the conference. She had stopped by to talk to Ted first. She learned of the engagement and worries about her mother. Eva tries to break the news gently but Leslie tells her that Kat already did and she is fine.

Eva confronts Kat, but the thing is, it was awkward, and Eva had not one leg to stand on. It was an odd writing choice, and honestly, they keep having the same conversations. You have two powerhouse actresses but give them no material to sink their teeth into. The constant back and forth is boring; it has been almost two years. Wrap it up.

Andre and Dani have lunch at the club when Heather waltzes in. Dani insists that she join them. She tells them all about her new condo and that she will be Andre’s neighbor. Andre is terrified. He made a call to his contact about Heather, but his contact is also terrified and cannot help him. You know what that means, right? He has to rely on Joey, and at this point, I will call Joey Sonny Corinthos going forward, because that is exactly who he has become on this show. He is a character that lacks originality and depth, which is an awful waste of Jon’s talent.

Dani goes to visit Joey to collect. She and Andre have been married for more than a year, living together for one. He convinces her to go double or nothing, and she foolishly accepts.

Later at home, Dani questions why he came in so hot with Heather. She tells him that Heather is a good person, and he snaps at her. Yelling that she doesn’t know what she is talking about. That he knows everything he needs to know about her. It is time for Dani to open her eyes and see who Heather really is.

Other Happenings

Ted and Shanice remain boring, and I have to wonder if he will even kiss the bride. Joey and Heather talk.

Final Thoughts on the Week

This week was solid. I’d like to see more story movement and less of the same conversations happening.
