A man and woman smile outdoors, wearing sunglasses and casual clothes. Greenery in the blurry background creates a relaxed, sunny atmosphere.

There’s something deeply satisfying about watching a seemingly ordinary life spiral into something far more sinister—and Apple TV is clearly betting big on that formula with its upcoming series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed. The newly released first-look teaser wastes no time hinting that this suburban nightmare will come with sharp humor, uneasy tension, and just enough mystery to keep viewers glued week after week.

Front and center is Tatiana Maslany, who plays Paula, a newly divorced mom juggling a custody battle and a full-blown identity crisis. Naturally, that’s already a lot but things escalate quickly when she believes she’s witnessed a crime. Because nothing says “getting your life back on track” like diving headfirst into blackmail and murder while managing youth soccer schedules. Maslany, best known for her Emmy-winning turn in Orphan Black, appears right at home in this morally messy role.

Joining her is Jake Johnson, bringing his signature everyman energy, along with a stacked supporting cast that includes Murray Bartlett and Brandon Flynn. The teaser hints at a world where everyone might be hiding something, and no one is entirely trustworthy, a promising setup for a thriller that leans as heavily on character dysfunction as it does on plot twists.

Created by David J. Rosen and directed in part by David Gordon Green, the series blends dark comedy with suspense in a way that feels deliberately off-kilter. The tone walks a fine line: unsettling, yes, but also self-aware enough to keep things entertaining rather than oppressive. It’s the kind of show that seems poised to ask, “How far would you go to fix your life?” and then answer with increasingly bad decisions.

Set to premiere May 20 with a two-episode launch, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed will roll out weekly through mid-July, giving audiences plenty of time to theorize, spiral, and question Paula’s judgment at every turn.

If the teaser is any indication, this is shaping up to be one of Apple TV’s more intriguing offerings this year, part domestic drama, part crime thriller, and entirely committed to watching its protagonist dig herself deeper. Whether Paula finds redemption or just more trouble remains to be seen, but either way, it looks like a ride worth taking.
