The daytime television community is mourning the loss of Mark Mortimer, best known to soap fans for playing Nick Hudson on NBC’s Another World. Mortimer died on September 23 at the age of 59 following his battle with cancer. According to an obituary written by his family, he was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his death.

Mortimer joined Another World in 1996 as Nick Hudson and remained with the long-running soap until its final episode aired in 1999. He was the third actor to take on the role, following Justin Chambers and Kevin McClatchy, and became part of the Hudson family during the show’s final years.

Nick was the son of Michael Hudson and the half-brother of twins Vicky and Marley, tying Mortimer’s character to one of Another World’s most recognizable families. Mortimer arrived relatively new to acting, later recalling that working alongside the veteran daytime cast helped him develop as a performer.

Although soap fans remember him primarily from Bay City, acting was only one chapter of Mortimer’s life. Before entering television, he served in the U.S. Army and worked as a model. His later screen credits included an appearance on Spin City, with his final film work coming in the 2000s.

Away from Hollywood, Mortimer moved into the construction business and spent more than two decades helping build IOC Construction. His family described someone whose life continually evolved, but said the roles that mattered most to him were being a husband and father. Mortimer and his wife, Christie, were married for 25 years and shared daughter Hunter.

Mortimer was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. Rather than allowing the diagnosis to become the defining piece of his story, he and Christie turned their experience into an effort to help other families by founding the Integrative Access Foundation. The organization was created to help people facing cancer gain access to integrative therapies that might otherwise be financially out of reach.

For longtime Another World viewers, Mortimer remains part of the final generation of performers who called Bay City home before NBC ended the soap’s 35-year run in June 1999. More than two decades later, the series continues to hold a special place among daytime fans, and news of Mortimer’s death adds another bittersweet goodbye for that community.

Mortimer is survived by Christie, Hunter, his parents, siblings and extended family. His family asked that memorial contributions be made to the Integrative Access Foundation so the work inspired by his cancer journey can continue.

Our condolences go out to Mark Mortimer’s family, friends, former colleagues and the Another World fans who remember him as Nick Hudson.
