All American Season 8 Episode 3 Review: Jordan Faces a Life-Changing Decision

Episode 3 of All American wastes absolutely no time turning up the drama. We open with KJ being questioned by the news about the shocking announcement Principal London is about to make. KJ doesn't hold back during the interview, but before we can find out what happened, the episode pulls the classic TV move and reveals it was actually a flash-forward.

We jump back four days before the showcase, and things start on a much lighter note. Jordan and Layla are having breakfast when she asks him to join her in Europe over the summer. Since he'll be on vacation, he agrees. After the first two episodes had me worried Jordan was going to make another questionable decision, I was honestly relieved to see him say yes.

Before long, Jordan heads off to meet with Principal London while we get our first appearance of Preach this season. He's making breakfast for Coop and Amina, but both of them have already left for the day.

Meanwhile, Amina catches KJ after his workout with a huge favor. She wants him to pretend to be her father during a phone call with her school. At first, it sounds like she's just been suspended, but the truth is much worse—she's actually being expelled. KJ tries to help, but let's be honest, he completely fumbles that phone call. Amina knows she has to tell Preach eventually, but she clearly isn't ready yet.

Back at home, KJ walks in to find Cassius spending time with Ava, making her return to the series. I'll admit, for a second I thought Cassius had moved on with someone else until I remembered where things left off.

Then comes the biggest surprise of the episode. Jordan doesn't waste any time asking Principal London why he requested this meeting, and London reveals he wants Jordan to become the new head football coach. According to him, Cassius was never meant to be a permanent solution—he was simply holding the position until someone "better" came along.

The CW drama meter officially shoots through the roof. Jordan immediately shares the news with Layla, and she gives him exactly the advice he needed. Rather than telling him what to do, she encourages him to figure out what his dream really is and promises they'll face whatever comes together.

While Jordan wrestles with his decision, Amina goes looking for Preach at Crenshaw but instead runs into Khalil. She asks why he hasn't posted the highlight reel she made for him, and he explains he's waiting for more footage before putting it online.

Elsewhere, Cassius reveals he's planning to ask Ava to renew their vows. KJ couldn't be happier, and hearing that he may even officiate the ceremony adds another heartfelt moment to the episode. Unfortunately, Amina's problems continue.

During lunch with Preach, she tries to hint that they need to spend more time together, but Preach completely misreads what she's trying to say. Instead of picking up on her guilt, he starts talking about how proud he is of her, making it even harder for Amina to admit she's been expelled.

Cassius later tells Principal London that SportsCenter will be covering the showcase, which immediately puts a smile on London's face. Even with that excitement, I still don't trust him. Something about Principal London continues to feel incredibly shady. Jordan eventually opens up to Preach about the coaching opportunity. Preach doesn't hesitate—he tells Jordan not to accept it because Cassius has worked hard to rebuild his career, and taking the job could destroy everything they've accomplished together.

Layla also finds herself carrying the weight of Jordan's secret after Cassius excitedly shares his plans to renew his vows and even shows her houses he's been looking at. You can see the guilt all over her face, but thankfully she keeps Jordan's confidence. Amina's search for a job leads her straight into an interview with Miranda—yes, Khalil's girlfriend. The interview quickly turns into an interrogation as Miranda realizes something bigger is going on. Instead of opening up, Amina storms out.

Later, Layla tells Jordan about her conversation with Cassius, leaving Jordan even more conflicted. At this point he's practically begging for some kind of sign from his father about what decision to make. Meanwhile, Miranda and Khalil spend some time together discussing his future after high school. When she mentions Amina's behavior, Khalil immediately gets defensive and wrongly assumes Miranda upset her when she was actually encouraging him to check on his friend.

Ironically, it takes KJ calling him out for Khalil to finally realize Miranda was right.When Khalil finally sits down with Amina, she tells him everything about being expelled. His reaction? He somehow manages to make most of the conversation about himself. Peak CW drama.

Jordan later goes through some of Billy Baker's old belongings and photos, finding the guidance he desperately needed without hearing a single word. Shortly afterward, he runs into an angry Khalil, who's convinced nobody believes in him anymore and admits he's simply exhausted.

In the episode's biggest emotional payoff, Jordan finally tells Cassius the truth about the coaching offer. Rather than hiding it any longer, he explains everything. Cassius tells him he'd be crazy not to consider the opportunity, and the two cousins shake hands with one simple line:

"May the best cousin win."

It's a genuinely strong scene that adds even more tension heading into the showcase. Unfortunately for Cassius, he also stands Ava up at the restaurant while she's dressed up and waiting for him.

And somehow...Episode 3 delivers exactly what All American fans expect: family conflict, impossible choices, emotional conversations, and enough drama to fuel the rest of the season.

Jordan's coaching dilemma is easily the strongest storyline, Amina continues to carry one of the most emotional arcs, and Principal London still feels like someone you simply shouldn't trust. The pacing stays strong throughout the episode, balancing heartfelt moments with classic CW-level chaos.
