In Tron Ares , he plays the titular Ares, a program unlike any before — one who dares to enter the real world. He took the stage in Hall H with his usual rockstar presence and introduced exclusive footage that had fans buzzing. We saw Ares tearing across the Grid on a sleeker-than-ever Lightcycle, dodging digital drones, and brooding in the rain like any good cyber-messiah should. The footage teased a darker, more philosophical side of the Tron  universe, hinting at a war between users and programs and some serious real-world consequences. If you’re not watching Beyond the Gates, what exactly are you doing with your weekday afternoons? CBS’s new fan-favorite soap is full of emotional chaos, workplace drama, and relationships that are more tangled than a pair of earbuds in your pocket. At the center of it all? Derek, the firefighter with a heart of gold and a magnet for messy love triangles. Actor Ben Gavin joined the Soap Wire Podcast , brought to you by The TV Cave , and gave us a juicy behind-the-scenes look at what it’s really like stepping into daytime TV. From lightning-fast filming to romantic whiplash, Gavin held nothing back — and honestly, we love him for it. “I Was Kind of Like a Deer in the Headlights at First” Ben Gavin doesn’t sugarcoat it: soaps are wild. “This is definitely my first opera — uh, soap,” he joked, catching his accidental slip. “But it was an adjustment. I'm not gonna lie, because the pace was so fast... you're coming in and shooting the scenes one, two, and we're out, moving on.” Coming from a film background, Gavin was used to long days and multiple takes. “Yesterday I shot seven scenes,” he said. “My call time was 7:30 in the morning, and I was out the door by 11:30. On a film set, that’s absolutely unheard of.” Still, he’s fully adapted to the grind. “Now I'm in the groove, you know? And I love it so much.” Love Triangle: Derek’s Chaotic Romance You can’t talk about Derek without addressing the situation with Ashley and Shanice — and yes, Ben Gavin has thoughts. “Shanice has been dropping little hints throughout the early part of the season,” he explained. “She definitely did [pounce] quickly.” As for who Derek really  wants? “If you were to give Derek some truth serum… I truly believe it’s Ashley,” Gavin admitted. “He wants that family life. He wants that one woman. And he wants to have a family, and he wants to have his job, and he wants to keep all that stuff.” Cue the collective sigh from the fans — the ones who aren’t busy yelling at Ashley for flirting with Andre. “Oh, I’m not gonna lie,” Gavin said with a laugh, “Ashley was blatantly flirting. I mean, I would kind of be like, tell me about it!” He also teased that Derek may be suspicious, even if he doesn’t have proof yet. “There are conversations that Ashley's having with Andre... Derek doesn't have anything tangible to say, ‘Hey, what is happening here?’ So it's just kind of this burning little thing in the back of his head.” Firefighter Life Deserves More Screen Time If you’re wondering why Derek is always at the hospital and never actually fighting fires, you’re not alone — Ben Gavin wants answers too. “There's a lot of talk about him being a firefighter,” he said. “There's not much other than, like, getting injured with that concussion early on.” Looking ahead to Season Two, Gavin hopes to showcase more of Derek’s job. “Before Ashley, his whole life was at the station. These guys, they risk their lives together. There's a bond there. And I think Season Two has a lot of room for that to be discovered.” He even teased the arrival of more firefighter coworkers. “They have brought in some more of the firefighters. I don't think that's breaking any rules,” he said, grinning. Setting Boundaries and Playing with Fire Gavin’s also ready for Derek to toughen up. “I want him to be able to kind of draw a line, like, ‘Hey, this is who I am and this is what I want.’ I want him to set the standard.” Will there be drama? Oh, you know  there will. “There’s some stuff coming up that definitely will put a hitch in that,” he teased. “But he starts making his way and being more committed to what he truly wants.” And yes, he’s heard the fan theories. “Someone said Derek's going to burn Ashley's house down and then come in and try to save her,” Gavin said, cracking up. “That is a stretch. That would be very soapy. But hey, I don't think anything’s off the table.” Final Take: Ben Gavin Is in His Soap Era and Thriving From fumbling his way into soap speed to fully embracing the wild ride that is Beyond the Gates , Ben Gavin is clearly having a blast — and it shows. I’ll just say that. While we know Liam was whisked away by his father, Bill Spencer, for an experimental procedure — it appears to have worked! His brothers are aware. Everyone is rejoicing. Liam is excited to spend more time with his daughters, and Will is thrilled to spend more time with his brother, as he told Electra and his mother. But Finn and Bridget have questions. Finn presses Bill while at the hospital, and Bridget questions Dr. Buckingham. They’re shocked that an inoperable brain tumor has just disappeared. Finn and Bridget clearly don’t trust what they’re being told. Meanwhile, Dr. Buckingham has the money and suddenly starts having a panic attack. What is going on here? Brooke, Ridge, and Eric begin preparing for their international fashion show. Ridge doesn’t like that Brooke wants to take Nick. Ridge insists his father wants him back with Brooke — and I mean, of course, Ridge, he’s not even hiding it. But Ridge is tired of his father meddling. Nick is still not giving up on Brooke. Brooke also makes it clear to Ridge that he doesn’t get to decide who she can have in her life. Deacon, Li, and Sheila talk about “Lunatic Luna” and how her life might have been different if she’d had a proper upbringing. Deacon doesn’t agree. Steffy and Taylor talk about Brooke, Nick, Ridge, and Naples. They mention how Eric also wants Ridge back with Brooke. Soon, Donna comes in and reaffirms that Brooke and Ridge belong together — the same thing we’ve been hearing for over 30 years. Destiny, right? Daphne is back! Carter notes that he missed her — as he should. Ridge and Nick have it out again! Steffy visits Liam and tells him she’s leaving for a bit and taking the kids with her. Sheila also stops by, and Steffy thanks her — but makes it clear this isn’t anything more. Which, let’s be honest, it never should be. Sheila shot both Finn and Steffy. One good deed doesn’t erase that.

I have to say, Gwen being back has been a breath of fresh air. She’s had encounters with Julie, Chad, JJ, Gabi, and Leo. I, for one, did not expect to enjoy Gwen’s return — but I have. It’s allowed me to remember the many different connections she has, even with Kristen DiMera. And now she’s moving into the mansion as well! I’ve been completely open to Gwen this time around. She’s involved with so many characters, from legacies to veterans, and it’s been a joy to watch — especially alongside her zingers to Leo. Dare I say, it’s been good! Gabi and Xander had a bonding moment dealing with their daughters — Gabi with her missing daughter, and Xander navigating his situation with Sarah and their child. This was another unexpected but welcome moment. It’s always nice to see characters interact with people outside their usual circles. Ari and Holly being kidnapped was something I was personally waiting for! It felt like forever before the shoe finally dropped. The actual kidnapping didn’t last nearly as long as the buildup, but of course they were rescued. Ari’s life seemed more at risk, but did you really think anything was going to happen to a Horton-Brady-Hernandez they just brought on? Absolutely not. This also led to Holly and Ari confronting Doug once they were safe. All they wanted was honesty. He always liked Holly and Ari, but even though he liked Ari, he was using her to get over Holly — plus he wasn’t honest about being stalked for more money. Should he have told the truth? Of course. But then, where would the drama be? I’ll confess: I was a Dolly fan. After talking to both girls, Doug makes his way to Julie and gives her Alice’s necklace — something he managed to get from Gwen without her knowing. Julie and Doug make peace, and she tells him she wants him to come back once he gets his life together. EJ and Kayla continue to spar over how the hospital should be run. EJ also hires Stephanie, which Kayla does not like. One story that has me hook, line, and sinker is Sophia and her lies about the baby. From giving birth to her and Tate’s son on her own, to leaving him at a safe haven, to seeing her spot her son out with Leo and Javi — the emotions jumped through the screen. She then asks Melinda to help her with a plan. They’re in Chicago, working to cover their tracks so nothing seems suspicious. Sophia returns to Salem and tells Tate and Brady that she had a baby girl (which we know is a lie), and that she let the adoptive family take the baby immediately after birth. Tate is devastated that he never even got to hold his own child before the adoption. Sarah and Xander finally agree to joint custody — if he sees Dr. Evans. Xander also wants to move forward with a legal separation. Tony DiMera and Gabi decide to work together to get their companies back. Marlena tries to assist EJ in recovering his memory to help Johnny, but he still can’t remember who shot him. We can still feel Marlena’s disdain for EJ because of their history — and now Belle is dating him. It’s always fascinating to see Marlena’s reactions where EJ is concerned. Johnny continues to feel supported by Chanel — I do wish we got more of Janel! As Johnny prepares for the trial, Marlena faints. What’s going on with her? Sarah checks her out and sends her home. At home, Marlena dreams about the Queen of the Night. Sarah also has a moment with Rachel, who says her favorite name is MacKenzie — the name she had when she was believed to be Sarah and Eric’s daughter. Brady and Rachel mention that Sophia had a girl, but Sarah knows that’s a lie, since she examined her. Looks like Sophia left one loose thread — and I’m looking forward to this storyline even more!

If you thought Dexter Morgan was finally six feet under, you clearly haven’t been paying attention. Dexter: Resurrection  crashed back onto the scene at San Diego Comic-Con 2025   with a vengeance — and let’s be honest, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Fans flooded Ballroom 20 for a killer panel featuring the original Dark Defender himself, Michael C. Hall , along with new and returning cast members, a blood-chilling new villain lineup, and a sneak peek at what’s shaping up to be the most twisted season yet. And yes, the cast spilled some serious secrets. We’re talking surprise characters, eerie dinner parties exclusively for serial killers, and the kind of father-son tension that makes Thanksgiving with your in-laws look like a spa retreat. Dexter Lives... Again SDCC 2025 Let’s catch you up before you end up on Dexter’s table. Dexter: Resurrection  picks up just weeks after Harrison shot his dear old dad  in Dexter: New Blood . But because this is Dexter we’re talking about, he didn’t stay dead. Instead, he wakes up from a coma, alone and bleeding — figuratively, this time — as Harrison has vanished into the New York ether. Determined to make things right (which usually means making things dead), Dexter heads to the Big Apple to track down his son. Unfortunately, redemption is never that easy, especially when Detective Angel Batista  (played by the always-reliable David Zayas ) shows up asking some very uncomfortable questions. According to Deadline, the resurrection arc is more than just a gimmick. It explores the deeper, darker emotional toll of Dexter’s twisted legacy and whether there’s still hope for the Morgan bloodline — or if that ship has already sunk to the bottom of Biscayne Bay. A Killer Cast and a Few Shocking Guests Joining Hall on the panel were several familiar faces: James Remar  returns as ghost dad Harry Morgan, because Dexter’s inner monologue needs a conscience Jack Alcott  reprises his role as Harrison, though he's currently playing hide-and-seek with the plot David Dastmalchian  steps in as a new threat known only as The Gemini Killer Krysten Ritter  plays the mysterious Lady Vengeance , whose name alone deserves its own spin-off And, in true SDCC mic-drop fashion, Peter Dinklage  was revealed as Leon Prater , who made his debut in Episode 4 at a dinner party for serial killers. Clyde Phillips Returns to the Kill Room Behind the scenes, longtime showrunner Clyde Phillips  is back steering the ship, proving once again that nobody knows how to balance dismemberment and emotional depth quite like he does.
