That was Danielle Spencer , and sadly, the world just lost a TV legend. The actress and real-life vet (yes, that  kind of vet) has passed away at 60 , leaving behind more than just a legacy of punchlines and sitcom side comments. Sure, Danielle Spencer  will always be best known as the hilariously blunt little sister on What’s Happening!! , a sitcom that helped redefine Black television in the 1970s. But Spencer didn’t stop at child stardom. After surviving a tragic car accident  in her teens that left her in a coma, she did something most former child stars don’t even dream about. She became a veterinarian. In between animal surgeries and TV guest spots, she beat breast cancer , endured spinal injuries , and even had emergency brain surgery  — all while keeping that same sarcastic spark fans loved her for. On August 11, 2025 , Danielle Spencer died after a long battle with cancer , surrounded by loved ones. Her former co-stars, including Haywood Nelson, paid tribute to her strength, spirit, and unfiltered wit. No surprise there. Dee was never one to sugarcoat things. Danielle wasn’t just a sitcom star. And yet, much like a butterfly pinned behind glass, the show looks great but doesn’t really move. As someone who was lucky enough to screen all six episodes before the August 13 premiere, I came in with high hopes and left with a very mixed bag. So let’s break it down. This is your full, honest Butterfly  review, no fluff, no spoilers, and definitely no fake hype. Daniel Dae Kim Is the Main Attraction and Rightfully So Let’s start with the obvious. Daniel Dae Kim is a star. Always has been. From Lost  to Hawaii Five-0  to his recent (and excellent) turn as Fire Lord Ozai in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender , he’s consistently magnetic. And in Butterfly , he proves once again that he’s built for action. Kim plays David Jung, a former U.S. intelligence operative trying to live a quiet life in South Korea until his past comes back to haunt him. Classic spy setup. But unlike the usual grizzled white dude with a five o’clock shadow and a dead wife, we get a complex Asian lead who actually brings depth and gravitas to the role. That alone makes this show feel like a step forward. Representation That Matters (And Looks Damn Good Too) Courtesy of Prime Video Let’s talk about the representation because it deserves to be highlighted. Not only is Butterfly  led by an Asian actor, but it also features a supporting cast that reflects the Korean setting. The show is set in South Korea and absolutely makes use of that both visually and culturally. The cinematography? Beautiful. South Korea serves as a stunning, moody, high-tech backdrop that adds flavor and authenticity to the espionage narrative. And the music? Top tier. BTS’s J-Hope even makes an appearance on the soundtrack with What If… , setting the tone for more than one emotional moment. So yes, from a diversity and aesthetic standpoint, Butterfly  delivers. But now let’s get into the meat of the matter. Storyline: Predictable with a Capital “P” This is where Butterfly  starts to flutter off course. The premise is decent, the setup is intriguing, and the stakes feel real enough. But once the initial excitement wears off, you realize, you’ve seen this before. Probably a dozen times. There’s the rogue agent. The mysterious young operative (played by Reina Hardesty) sent to track him down. The secretive organization pulling the strings. The inevitable betrayal. Cue the dramatic stares and heavy-handed metaphors about trust and redemption. Look, I’m not asking for Inception -level twists here, but Butterfly  plays it so safe that by episode three, I could basically predict how the rest of the season would unfold. We have finally made The Gild fans! We made it to The Gilded Age Season 3 finale, and while most of our pearls have slipped from our necks, much like when Gladys shattered her pearls after becoming engaged to the Duke, we have recovered gracefully. This finale gave us everything we needed: it wrapped up loose ends nicely, tied together several long-running story arcs, and of course, set up plenty of drama for Season 4. If you thought the tension was high before, buckle up because this show knows how to leave us wanting more. George’s Near-Death Experience and William’s Heroics The episode kicks off with a high-stakes scene: George being rushed home after he’s been shot. The immediate aftermath was intense, but what I truly loved was the role William played in saving George’s life. William stepped up and was the man who pulled George back from the brink, no one blinked at the fact that he’s Black. Honestly, The Gilded Age does a fantastic job of toning down the rampant racism that would realistically have been a huge obstacle during this period. Some might say it’s a bit idealized, but I appreciate that the show focuses on the characters’ humanity and relationships rather than getting bogged down in racial prejudice. Plus, the payoff was beautiful: George recovered and paid William handsomely for saving him, an amount that seems to secure William’s financial future indefinitely. This was a big moment, not just plot-wise but symbolically, showing progress and respect that’s rare in period dramas. William and Peggy: A Romance Worth Rooting For Photograph by Karolina Wojtasik/HBO Speaking of William, let’s dive into how his and Peggy’s storyline wrapped up this season. I couldn’t be happier with their trajectory. From the start, their relationship faced massive hurdles, from Elizabeth’s interference to the scandal Peggy suffered in society because of it. When William’s father finally stood up to Elizabeth, telling her off for meddling in his son’s life and ruining Peggy’s reputation, I cheered for them both. William, ever the determined and honorable man, proposed to Peggy despite everything Elizabeth tried to throw at him. The slow-motion buildup to that moment was just chef’s kiss , pure romance, classic Gilded Age style. While we didn’t get to hear Peggy officially say yes, the look on her face said it all: she was ready to take that leap. And can we talk about Dorothy? Prior to this, she didn’t have the biggest role, but her standing up to Elizabeth and defending Peggy was a power move. Mama bear doesn’t mess around. I’m rooting for this couple to thrive next season. Larry and Marian: From Confusion to Commitment? Photograph by Karolina Wojtasik/HBO Now, about the other young couple who have slowly but surely won me over: Larry and Marian. At first, I didn’t quite understand them. Their trust issues and the back-and-forth had me skeptical. But over the course of the season, I’m genuinely rooting for their relationship. This finale left their future a bit open-ended, are they engaged or starting over? Either way, they clearly have work to do. Marian overreacted at times, and Larry lied about a few things. But that’s what makes their story interesting, they’re human and flawed, and watching them navigate that messiness is captivating. Ada’s role in helping Agnes realize how silly she was being was much needed. Also, I’m pretty sure Ada slipped a donation to the historical society so they’d name Agnes Vice President, which was a hilarious touch. The show’s blend of drama with moments of humor like that never fails to land. Oscar and Enid’s Bold Move: Marriage for Convenience? Photograph by Karolina Wojtasik/HBO And then there’s the shocking twist with Oscar and Enid teaming up. That was not on my bingo card! Oscar proposing they marry for society’s sake while keeping their side pieces was downright brilliant, so scandalous yet so strategic. I can’t wait to see what kind of trouble this arrangement will bring in Season 4. Especially now that Bertha is the Queen Bee in charge, and divorced women are finally accepted in their circles, the social game has shifted dramatically. Bertha’s power play against Mrs. Astor was legendary, once again, she showed who truly holds the cards. But I have to give a nod to Mrs. Astor, too, for putting her child’s happiness above society’s rigid rules. That was a rare and touching moment. Gladys: From Miserable to Belle of the Ball And can you believe our girl Gladys is happy with the Duke and pregnant? She started the season so miserable and stuck in a loveless situation, but now she’s the Belle of the ball, exactly what Bertha wanted for her. I’m genuinely happy for Gladys; she’s come a long way. But knowing The Gilded Age, no one stays happy for long. I’m intrigued to see what challenges await her next season, especially as pregnancy and nobility bring their own complications. Photograph by Karolina Wojtasik/HBO George and Bertha: Marriage on the Rocks? Meanwhile, George and Bertha’s relationship is still on shaky ground. Even after George’s near-death experience, which you’d think might soften things, he still wants to live separately. The episode made it clear that forgiveness isn’t a simple fix, and Bertha might be headed for divorce court after all. It’s a harsh reality check that power, money, and social standing don’t always protect you from heartbreak and upheaval. Their storyline remains one of the most emotionally compelling arcs in the show, and I’m curious how they’ll move forward, whether they reconcile or completely go their separate ways. Looking back at the season as a whole, this finale did a fantastic job bringing many arcs full circle while leaving room for new stories to unfold. Remember the tensions between the old-money Astors and the nouveaux riche? Those battles have only escalated, especially with Bertha firmly asserting herself as a social leader. The political and social maneuvering continues to be a major highlight, blending personal drama with larger societal shifts. What didn't work this episode or in fact this season? Not enough with the servants. Yes, Jack became rich but then he sort of faded. We got a cute and short scene with him and Bridget, surely to setup a romance next season but I wanted more. Hopefully next season we will get more focus on the staff. And of course, the show’s attention to period detail remains stunning, from the lavish costumes to the intricate sets and the social rituals of the era. Every episode feels like stepping back in time, but with a modern sensibility that highlights the characters’ complexities beyond just their wealth and titles. All in all, the Season 3 finale of The Gilded Age  was satisfying and dramatic, with moments that made me cheer, gasp, and tear up. The characters feel more real and layered than ever, and the stakes have never been higher. I’m already counting down the days until Season 4 drops, eager to see what fresh scandals and romances await. Until then, I’ll be rewatching some of these episodes and savoring all the pearls, both literal and metaphorical, that this show has given us. Bravo, The Gilded Age . You’ve outdone yourself once again.

Part of Friday’s Bold and the Beautiful episode was triggering for some viewers—even for me. It reeked of misogynoir. Sheila has killed people, and so has Luna, but for Grace to be accosted like that did not sit right with me—especially when she’s a character who is rarely on canvas and we never saw this story build. Instead, we were suddenly forced to watch her have violence thrown at her. This is just my opinion . While Brooke waits for Nick, Ridge shows up and apologizes for his behavior during the CEO takeover. Soon, Nick arrives and whisks her away. Ridge complains to his dad about Nick and Brooke, then heads out to find her. Brooke and Nick go sightseeing in Naples, and he plans to take her on a boat for an adventure. They’re enjoying themselves until Nick loses control of the steering, sending Brooke into the water. Ridge jumps in to save her, while Nick is left unconscious. Ridge brings Brooke to safety and revives her. They are both thankful to be alive. Donna and Katie continue talking about Brooke and Ridge. Finn visits Liam and Bill, and his suspicions continue to grow as they praise Dr. Buckingham. Finn tries to locate Liam’s medical records and realizes something is wrong. Dr. Buckingham, alone, says they can leave her daughter alone now. Finn enters and demands the truth. Grace tries to evade the topic, but Finn reveals there’s no record of Liam’s cancer—meaning she must have faked it! Grace breaks down and explains she was blackmailed because of Reese, and her daughters’ lives were in danger. She says she had to go along with the scheme to keep them alive. Completely destroyed by what she’s done, Grace is forced by Finn to go to the Spencers’ home and tell the truth. When she does, the Spencers almost violently attack her after learning everything. Liam and Hope talk about how happy they are that he’s healthy. They also revisit their past encounters with Reese Buckingham. Sheila and Deacon discuss Li and Luna. Sheila heads to the hospital and learns Li has taken a leave of absence. She tries to get information, but there’s no record of Luna’s whereabouts. Soon after, Li appears. When Sheila asks about Luna, Li dodges the question—but Sheila notices medication spilling from Li’s bag. She follows her, and sees for herself that Luna is, in fact, alive.

Samantha “Sami” Gene Brady comes to town. Sami and her mother talk about John and what he meant to her. Sami even has a private moment speaking to John’s picture. (John and Sami’s relationship was an important one on Days of our Lives.) Chad and Cat’s family and friends grow concerned when they realize they haven’t seen or heard from them all night. Soon, they discover the two are stuck in an elevator. After they’re rescued, Julie makes it clear she doesn’t like them together. Following some snide remarks, Chad has a talk with her about her treatment of Cat and makes it known that Julie cannot choose his friends. Marlena visits Sarah, who tells her all her test results came back negative. They discuss Sarah and Xander’s troubles, and Sarah says she intends to find out what’s going on with Marlena. At the DiMera mansion, Susan is getting on her son and grandson’s nerves. She brings up Sami—something they don’t want to hear—and also mentions Marlena “joining the dark side.” Xander dreams of Sarah. Soon after, Gabi comes in; they talk about Ari, and she invites him to lunch. During their conversation, she learns someone filed a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request regarding the DiMera takeover. Outside the pub, Sarah and Xander have an awkward meeting, with Xander’s jealousy showing. Gabi lets Tony know she’s actively working on Xander. Tate tells Sophia he wants to send the baby a gift and hopes to arrange a visit as well. Sophia tells Melinda about Sarah and Tate, but Melinda isn’t worried about Sarah and plans to figure out the Tate situation. Meanwhile, Sophia continues to be filled with guilt. Tate and Belle discuss her staying at the hotel while Sami is in town, to keep the peace. They also talk about Tate’s feelings toward his child, and whether he should move on—like Sophia has. Paulina is called to the stand for Johnny’s trial. Her testimony isn’t great for Johnny, but she does state she doesn’t believe he’s guilty. Gabi is also called to the stand and testifies that she heard EJ and Johnny arguing. Tate sees Sophia again and repeats that he wants to send a letter to the “adoptive parents” and meet them. This causes Sophia to snap, as she doesn’t understand why he wants information on a baby they weren’t meant to have. Later, Tate spots Leo with Tesoro—unaware that Tesoro is actually his son. Steve asks Alex about his arrest, and they move forward. Gabi and Xander go out to the Bistro. Gabi kisses him—something Sarah witnesses. Xander gets upset that Sarah is there with Brady and starts antagonizing her. Sarah tells him they co-parent, their daughter is asleep, and gets back at him by kissing Brady. Tony and Anna discuss the possibility that Stefano might be alive. Tony dismisses it, saying his father would never have allowed the company to be taken over. He assures Anna that once they regain control of the company, they won’t remain in Salem. Chanel still wants a child. Belle and EJ talk about how they love each other before heading to court. Johnny takes the stand, and the reason for his anger toward EJ comes out—he admits it’s because his father raped his mother, Sami. When EJ redirects, he brings up his relationship with Belle. Soon, EJ calls for a mistrial, but the judge denies it, and Belle ends their relationship.

Freakier Friday is finally here bringing back the classic body swap comedy with a fresh twist. Nearly twenty years after the last Freaky Friday hit screens fans have been eager to see Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan team up again. But does this sequel live up to the hype or does it get lost in its own chaos? Still the fresh chaos brings some unexpected laughs and keeps the energy high throughout the film. This complexity might divide viewers some will enjoy the added layers while others may find it a distraction from the main story. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan Shine Bright What really makes Freakier Friday worth watching is the chemistry between Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. Their on screen reunion feels natural and heartfelt reminding us why their dynamic worked so well in the first place. Curtis’s comedic timing remains sharp and Lohan brings a vibrant energy that matches perfectly. The supporting cast especially Julia Butters adds extra sparkle delivering performances that keep the movie grounded amid the madness. Fun Fast Paced but Sometimes Overstuffed The film’s pacing moves quickly never letting the story drag. This fast flow suits a modern family audience and keeps things entertaining from start to finish. The humor ranges from classic slapstick body swap antics to updated pop culture jokes that will land differently depending on your generation. However with so many characters swapping bodies at once Freakier Friday can sometimes feel overcrowded. The storyline juggles multiple threads and at times it struggles to keep the emotional core as clear as the original. This might leave some viewers wishing for a tighter more focused plot. The extra layers add complexity but at the expense of simplicity and clarity. Still for viewers who enjoy chaos and surprises the twists can be a fun ride. Nostalgia Meets New Generation Vibes Nostalgia is a big selling point here. Fans of the original will catch plenty of references and callbacks that create a warm sense of familiarity. Yet the movie also tries to update the story for today’s audience blending generational humor with themes of empathy and understanding across family lines. The message about walking in someone else’s shoes is delivered with humor and heart making Freakier Friday more than just a silly comedy. It reminds viewers of the importance of family connection even if it gets a bit wild along the way. The direction keeps the camera moving smoothly which helps maintain the film’s energetic pace. While the production values are solid the movie feels made for streaming in many ways. This means it is perfectly suited for relaxed viewing at home but does not quite have the polish of a big theatrical blockbuster. For many fans this is not a problem because the focus is on the story and performances. Freakier Friday is an entertaining sequel that brings back the fun of the original while adding its own quirky twists. It is not perfect the plot can get confusing and the storytelling occasionally feels rushed. But Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan’s chemistry combined with plenty of laughs and heartfelt moments makes it a worthwhile watch. If you enjoy family comedies with a dash of magic and chaos Freakier Friday offers a good time especially for those who grew up with the franchise. It is a fun feel good movie that captures the spirit of Freaky Friday while trying something new. So grab some popcorn get ready for some unexpected body swaps and enjoy the ride.
