The ocean is calling again, and this time, you don't even have to leave your couch to answer. Disney's live-action Moana has officially arrived on Disney+ as of Wednesday, October 21, bringing the beloved island adventure home following its theatrical debut earlier this summer.

Whether you missed the movie in theaters or simply want another excuse to belt out "How Far I'll Go" without strangers judging your singing abilities, the wait is over. Moana and Maui are ready to take fans on another adventure, complete with beautiful ocean scenery, familiar music, and one particularly confident demigod who has never been accused of being humble.

A Familiar Journey With a New Look

The 2026 film reimagines Disney's 2016 animated favorite, following Moana, a courageous young girl from the island of Motunui who feels destined for something beyond the reef. When her people face a growing threat, she sets sail across the ocean in search of Maui, the legendary demigod who might be able to help restore balance.

Of course, convincing Maui to cooperate isn't exactly a simple task. Between his larger-than-life personality and impressive ability to make just about everything about himself, Moana has her work cut out for her. But their unlikely partnership remains at the heart of a story about courage, identity, and discovering just how far you're willing to go for the people you love.

Who Stars in the Live-Action Moana?

Catherine Lagaʻaia takes on the title role, stepping into the character originally voiced by Auliʻi Cravalho in the animated films. Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson returns as Maui, making the jump from voicing the animated demigod to portraying him in live action.

The cast also includes Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, Frankie Adams as Sina, and John Tui as Chief Tui. Jemaine Clement returns as the voice of Tamatoa, because apparently even a live-action remake can't resist bringing back that ridiculously dramatic crab.

Directed by Thomas Kail, known for his work on Hamilton, the film features music associated with the original adventure from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi, and Mark Mancina, along with the new song "Along the Way."

Where Can You Watch Moana?

The live-action Moana is now streaming exclusively on Disney+ for subscribers. The film is rated PG and runs approximately one hour and 55 minutes, making it an easy choice for a family movie night or a nostalgic return to Motunui.

And if one adventure isn't enough, the original animated Moana and Moana 2 are also available on Disney+, so fans can turn the evening into a full-on ocean voyage without ever leaving the living room.

Whether you prefer the animated classic or want to see how the story translates into live action, there's plenty of Moana to go around. Just don't blame us when "You're Welcome" gets stuck in your head for the next three days.
