What to Watch Saturday, October 3: ‘A Knight to Remember,’ ‘Saturday Night Live’ & ‘Ranma1/2’

Saturday television is doing a little bit of everything. Hallmark has romance traveling several centuries with A Knight to Remember, Netflix drops Season 3 of Ranma1/2, and Saturday Night Live keeps Season 52 moving with Dakota Johnson returning to host. Lifetime also has a new ripped-from-the-headlines movie, while Crossroad Springs reaches its midseason finale on Great American Family.
TV Cave Top Pick: A Knight to Remember
Hallmark is going full fantasy-romance tonight with A Knight to Remember, premiering at 8 PM ET. Julie Gonzalo stars as Emily, a Chicago museum conservator whose restoration project gets considerably more complicated when an impulsive kiss brings a centuries-old English knight to life. James Trevena plays Sir Griffin de Beauford, with Chris McNally also appearing in the movie.
Yes, Hallmark has officially reached the “kiss the statue and see what happens” portion of its programming, and we're not mad at it. The fish-out-of-water setup gives the movie something a little different from the network's usual seasonal romances, while still leaving plenty of room for the inevitable question of whether Griffin belongs in Emily's world — assuming she can keep him from turning back into stone first.

Lifetime Goes Dark With ‘A Doctor to Die For’
Lifetime has a much heavier offering at 8 PM ET with A Doctor to Die For: The Sarah Harris Story. Siobhan Williams stars as Sarah Harris, with Luke Macfarlane playing Dr. James Ryan in the dramatization of the real-life case surrounding Harris' death.
It's certainly a tonal 180 from Hallmark's magically revived knight airing at the exact same time. But that's Saturday cable television for you: one remote click can apparently take you from a fantasy romance to a disturbing true-crime story without so much as a commercial break in between.
‘Saturday Night Live’ Keeps Season 52 Moving
Late night belongs to Saturday Night Live, which returns at 11:29 PM ET on NBC with Dakota Johnson hosting and Turnstile serving as musical guest. It's the second episode of Season 52, following last weekend's premiere with Jalen Brunson and KATSEYE.
Johnson has been down the SNL road before, so this isn't her first time trying to survive a week at Studio 8H. Turnstile brings a very different musical energy to the night, giving the episode an interesting host-and-musical-guest combination as the new season starts settling in.
Saturday isn't overflowing with scripted premieres, but what is here covers a lot of ground. A Knight to Remember gets the TV Cave Top Pick, Ranma1/2 gives Netflix viewers a fresh season, Lifetime handles the true-crime crowd and SNL closes the night. Sometimes a smaller Saturday schedule is exactly what the remote ordered.
