What to Watch Monday, September 21: ‘The Voice,’ ‘Line of Fire’ & ‘Tuner’

Fall TV really starts showing up for work Monday. The Voice launches its milestone 30th season, Peter Krause returns to network television in NBC's new drama Line of Fire, and Paramount+ adds Tuner, starring Leo Woodall and Dustin Hoffman. Peacock confirms The Voice premieres tonight at 8 PM ET, while Paramount+ has Tuner arriving today.

FOX gets into the fall-premiere action too with new seasons of Celebrity Name That Tune and Celebrity Weakest Link, while ABC turns most of primetime over to Giants-Rams on Monday Night Football. In other words, summer television has officially been informed that its services are no longer required.

TV Cave Top Pick: Line of Fire

Line of Fire premieres tonight at 10 PM ET on NBC, with Peter Krause leading an ensemble that includes Hope Davis, Kat Cunning, Tommy O'Brien, Taylor Bloom and Charlie Barnett. The drama follows the Hollingsworth family, whose careers stretch across the Secret Service, FBI, U.S. Marshals and Department of Justice, making family-work boundaries pretty much nonexistent.

The pilot begins with a murder investigation that quickly becomes more personal for the family, setting up a series that's as interested in the Hollingsworths' complicated relationships as it is in federal cases and conspiracies. Krause spent years dealing with emergencies on 9-1-1, and apparently his idea of a relaxing follow-up was joining an entire family of federal agents. New episodes will continue Mondays at 10 PM on NBC.

The Voice Hits Season 30

The Voice begins Season 30 tonight with a two-hour Blind Auditions premiere and a considerably refreshed coaching panel. Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine return, while Queen Latifah and country singer Riley Green make their coaching debuts. Carson Daly is back as host.

NBC isn't easing into the milestone season either. Tonight begins a three-night premiere event, with more Blind Auditions Tuesday and Wednesday before the show settles into its regular schedule. Thirty seasons later, those chairs are still turning although Queen Latifah entering the competition might give everybody a reason to be a little more nervous about whose team the singers choose.

Tuner Comes to Paramount+

Tuner makes its streaming debut today on Paramount+. Leo Woodall stars as Niki, a New York piano tuner whose unusually sensitive hearing turns out to be useful for something considerably less legal: cracking safes. Dustin Hoffman plays his mentor, with Havana Rose Liu, Tovah Feldshuh, Jean Reno and Lior Raz also appearing.

The thriller marks Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Daniel Roher's narrative feature debut and arrives on streaming after festival stops including Telluride, Toronto, Sundance and BFI London. Between a piano tuner discovering he's good at safecracking and an NBC family where nearly everybody works for a federal agency, Monday apparently has decided normal careers aren't dramatic enough anymore.

FOX's game-show premieres and Giants-Rams round out a Monday that feels much more like the beginning of the traditional fall season. And this is only the start: Best Medicine and Doc return Tuesday, while Survivor joins the premiere-week traffic Wednesday. The DVR may want to update its résumé now.
