What to Watch Monday, October 5: ‘FBI,’ ‘CIA’ & ‘Line of Fire’ Lead a Packed Premiere Night

If Sunday was the warm-up, Monday has apparently decided subtlety is overrated. CBS rolls out three consecutive season premieres with FBI, CIA and Harlan Coben’s Final Twist, The CW launches Private Eyes West Coast alongside the return of Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, and NBC has a fresh episode of Line of Fire waiting at 10 PM.

Streaming isn't sitting this one out either. Hulu has a brand-new Family Guy Halloween special, Acorn TV brings Signora Volpe back for Season 3, and Netflix adds a documentary about Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels. There is a ridiculous amount competing for attention tonight, which is exactly how fall television should feel.

TV Cave Top Pick: FBI

We're giving tonight to FBI. Season 9 premieres at 8 PM ET on CBS with “Rendition,” and the new season isn't simply resetting everything and sending the team out on another case. Maggie is adjusting to a new partner, Special Agent Isaiah Green, while OA is dealing with changes of his own. Their first investigation begins with the death of a young traveler and quickly leads the team toward a secret government project.

It also kicks off CBS's new Monday configuration, with FBI now leading directly into CIA and Harlan Coben's Final Twist. Three dramas, three premieres and three straight hours of people investigating things that definitely aren't going to make anyone's Monday less stressful.

CBS directly confirms the FBI–CIA–Final Twist 8-to-11 PM premiere block, while NBC's current listings have The Voice at 8 followed by Line of Fire at 10. The CW independently confirms Private Eyes West Coast at 8 and Law & Order Toronto at 9.

‘CIA’ Is Back — And It Isn't Wasting Time

CIA begins Season 2 at 9 PM ET, picking things up with Bill returning to work following his father's death. A cartel fixer arriving in New York sends the team into another investigation, but the discovery of a dead DEA agent makes it clear they're dealing with something considerably messier than expected.

There's also a little FBI-universe crossover action as John Boyd appears as Special Agent Stuart Scola. With FBI immediately preceding it, CBS is leaning all the way into Dick Wolf territory on Mondays, and honestly, resistance appears futile at this point.

‘Line of Fire’ Has Another Mess to Clean Up

Over on NBC, Line of Fire continues its freshman run at 10 PM ET with Episode 3, “There Are Two Wolves.” After the first two episodes established just how complicated this world — and these people — can get, the new drama gets another chance tonight to deepen those relationships while continuing the cases driving the season.

It's also going directly against Harlan Coben's Final Twist, which makes 10 PM one of tonight's more interesting battles. CBS has an established returning mystery series while NBC has one of the fall's new dramas still building its audience. Nobody could just schedule these things nicely for us, apparently.

‘Private Eyes’ Moves West

The CW gets its own fall premiere night underway at 8 PM with Private Eyes West Coast. Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson return as Matt Shade and Angie Everett, whose attempt at a new life on the West Coast doesn't exactly remain peaceful once they find themselves pulled into another murder investigation.

The premiere is followed at 9 PM by the Season 2 return of Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent. The CW confirmed the two-show Monday lineup back in August, giving the network a full night of crime-solving to compete with CBS's even larger mountain of crime-solving. Apparently the official television theme for October 5 is simply nobody gets away with anything.

‘Below Deck Mediterranean’ Reaches the Dock

Bravo's Below Deck Mediterranean wraps Season 11 at 8 PM ET with “Tick, Tick, Boom.” The final charter isn't exactly giving the crew a quiet goodbye, while tensions among Nathan, Joe and Aesha threaten to bring some unresolved issues bubbling up before everyone can finally get off the boat.

Bravo's official schedule confirms Episode 18 in tonight's 8 PM slot, making the finale another significant option in an already overcrowded hour. Between FBI, Private Eyes West Coast, The Voice and Below Deck Med, the DVR deserves overtime pay tonight.

‘Family Guy’ Goes Straight to Hell

Hulu is getting into spooky season with Family Guy: Happy Hell-O-Ween, an exclusive Halloween special arriving today. Brian and Stewie wind up in actual Hell, where their ability to annoy practically everyone apparently remains fully operational even in the underworld. Kieran Culkin guest stars as the Devil, which is already enough casting to make this worth a look.

Hulu confirms the special premieres exclusively today, giving viewers something considerably less serious to watch between all those murders, federal investigations and crime scenes filling broadcast television.

Acorn TV also premieres Signora Volpe Season 3 today, with Sylvia's Italian life once again interrupted by murder, while Netflix releases Lorne, its new documentary examining Lorne Michaels and the enormous comedy institution he built with

Saturday Night Live.

There is no shortage of television tonight. FBI gets our Top Pick because its Season 9 premiere also launches CBS's entire new Monday lineup, but CIA, Line of Fire, Private Eyes West Coast and Below Deck Mediterranean all have legitimate reasons to steal some attention. Monday has officially joined fall premiere season — and it did not arrive quietly.
