Twisted Metal Renewed for a Season 3 at Peacock but There Will be a New Showrunner

Two people stand in a green field near a concrete canal. The sky is cloudy. One wears a brown jacket, the other a yellow shirt, both look pensive.

Peacock is keeping the engines running on one of its most explosive originals. Twisted Metal has been officially renewed for Season 3, with the upcoming chapter set to introduce a significant creative shift. The renewal was first reported by Deadline, marking another milestone for the action comedy series that has steadily built a loyal audience since its debut.

The most notable change for the new season is the arrival of David Reed as showrunner. Reed is a veteran writer and producer with credits on major genre hits including The Boys and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. He will take over leadership from Michael Jonathan Smith, who guided Twisted Metal through its first two seasons. Smith’s tenure helped establish the series as one of Peacock’s standout original titles, blending outlandish action with sharp comedic energy.

Based on the classic PlayStation series, Twisted Metal stars Anthony Mackie as John Doe, a courier navigating a dangerous wasteland filled with volatile factions and unpredictable threats. Along the way he encounters the murderous clown Sweet Tooth, portrayed through a combination of physical performance and voice work, as well as fellow survivor Quiet, played by Stephanie Beatriz. The ensemble also includes Anthony Carrigan and Patty Guggenheim, adding depth and humor to the show’s chaotic world.

The series premiered in 2023 and returned earlier this year for its second season. The latest chapter followed John and Quiet as they entered the infamous Twisted Metal tournament, a violent demolition contest orchestrated by the mysterious Calypso. The season placed the duo against new opponents and returning adversaries, while John confronted deeply personal turmoil after reuniting with his long lost sister Dollface.

Peacock’s decision to move forward with a third season signals confidence in the franchise and in its ability to expand its universe under new creative leadership. With Reed taking the wheel, Season 3 is poised to explore new corners of the wasteland while maintaining the high energy and unpredictable spirit that have defined the series so far.

A premiere date and additional details are expected to be announced in the coming months.
