The TV Cave’s Daily TV Guide: What to Watch on August 23

Sunday TV is giving us a little bit of everything. Lioness has the team racing against the clock, The Vampire Lestat takes the stage for a special live performance, Big Brother gets another round of nominations underway, and Bravo is basically handing the evening over to the Housewives.

Then there’s the 9 p.m. hour, where things get crowded fast. Lanterns has questions surrounding Hal, The Walking Dead: Dead City sends its crew on a supply run, The Librarians: The Next Chapter gets supernatural, and The Westies closes out its first season.

Lestat Is Ready for His Encore

If you weren’t lucky enough to get into the Beacon Theatre in June, AMC+ is bringing the performance home with The Vampire Lestat: One Night Only Live. The special captures the standing-room-only New York performance and gives fans another dose of Lestat without requiring a plane ticket, concert ticket or whatever level of vampire connections were necessary to get inside that theater.

It also makes for an easy early-day watch before Sunday night television really gets going.

Big Brother and the Housewives Take Over at 8

CBS keeps the Big Brother season moving with a new Head of Household officially making their first major decision: nominating three people for eviction. As usual, winning power is the easy part. Now comes the part where everyone suddenly wants to have a private conversation.

Over on Bravo, The Real Housewives of Atlanta reaches Part 3 of its reunion, with K. Michelle finally revealing more about the plot that has hovered over the season. The Porsha and Shamea situation isn't getting any prettier either, with their friendship looking increasingly difficult to repair.

Lifetime offers a very different kind of housewife drama with Three Housewives and a Body. The movie follows three best friends whose girls’ night turns into a nightmare after a home invasion ends with a man dead. So, maybe stick with wine and takeout next time.

Sunday at 9 Is the Main Event

Good luck picking just one show at 9 p.m.

Lanterns puts Hal under the microscope as questions about his motives grow, while The Walking Dead: Dead City sends Maggie, Negan, Dillard and Renata searching for desperately needed resources. TNT’s The Librarians: The Next Chapter gets weird with a Monkey’s Paw, a mysterious hotel and a fog that leaves the team trapped with more than a few emotional issues to work through.

Bravo keeps its Housewives marathon going with The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th, including the return of Kyle’s White Party and growing friction between Vicki and Luann. Meanwhile, CNN’s Decades in Sports looks back at the defining sports stories of the 2000s.

MGM+ also has a big night with The Westies Season 1 finale. The fallout between Roarke and Sweeney fractures the group as Bridget moves forward with the mission and Keenan struggles with both his guilt and his relationship with his son. If you’ve been following this one all season, Sunday is payoff time.

What Are You Watching Tonight?

Whether you're spending Sunday with Lestat, the Green Lanterns, the Housewives, the Big Brother houseguests or Maggie and Negan, there’s no shortage of choices. And with five shows all landing at 9 p.m., the DVR and watchlist may have to put in some overtime tonight.
