Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Everything We Know So Far – The Next Generation of Cadets is Here

Two people stand with arms crossed in a warmly lit room featuring geometric designs and glass displays. Mood is contemplative.

The Star Trek universe is about to enroll a whole new class of viewers and cadets. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, set to premiere on January 15, 2026 on Paramount+, promises a fresh take on the beloved franchise, transporting fans to the 32nd century for the first time in television history. With new faces, returning favorites, and interstellar drama, this is shaping up to be the series every Trek fan didn’t know they were waiting for.

Set in a post‑Burn galaxy where warp travel is finally stabilizing, the series follows the first class of Starfleet cadets in over a century. These rookies aren’t just learning how to pilot starships, they’re navigating rivalries, first loves, and cosmic-level threats that could redefine the Federation. It’s part coming-of-age drama, part space opera, and all Star Trek, with the kind of world-building and ethical dilemmas the franchise has thrived on for decades.

Leading the Academy is Holly Hunter as Chancellor Nahla Ake, the no-nonsense commander of the U.S.S. Athena, whose mentorship sets the tone for these cadets’ high-stakes adventures. Alongside her, the new cadet ensemble including Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, and Zoë Steiner brings youthful energy, awkward heroics, and a few space-grade egos to the Academy halls.

For fans craving continuity, Starfleet Academy delivers. Robert Picardo returns as The Doctor, Mary Wiseman as Sylvia Tilly, Tig Notaro as Jett Reno, and Oded Fehr as Admiral Charles Vance, bridging the gap between classic Trek lore and this futuristic classroom. And adding some intergalactic tension is Paul Giamatti as Nus Braka, a part-Klingon, part-Tellarite antagonist whose presence promises to challenge both cadets and viewers alike.

Filmed at Pinewood Toronto Studios, Season 1 will feature 10 episodes, launching with a two-episode premiere before weekly releases until mid-March 2026. With Season 2 already in the works, Paramount+ clearly believes this Academy is one class worth repeating.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is shaping up to deliver camaraderie, cosmic stakes, and the eternal Trek theme of hope in the face of the unknown just with a little more teenage angst than usual. Buckle up, engage, and prepare to follow a new generation of cadets as they learn that in space, school truly never ends.
