The blood is back the betrayal is better than ever and now there's a badass female gladiator flipping into the spotlight. STARZ just dropped the first trailer for Spartacus: House of Ashur and it's pure chaos in the best way possible.
The Gladiators Are Back But With a Sinister Twist Spartacus: House of Ashur Trailer
Fans of the original Spartacus series already know it was never about subtlety. Buckets of blood graphic arena brawls betrayal that would make a Roman senator blush and yes a ridiculous amount of slow motion. Well guess what Ashur is back and he is bringing all of it and more.
In the brand new trailer unveiled at San Diego Comic Con STARZ gave fans their first taste of House of Ashur the surprise sequel-slash-spin-off we didn't know we needed. The series picks up in an alternate timeline where Ashur played by the always-sinister Nick E Tarabay didn't die a brutal death in Spartacus: Vengeance. Instead he’s thriving owning his own ludus and rewriting the rules of gladiator combat.
Meet Achillia The Gladiatrix Who Breaks Everything
The biggest surprise of the trailer besides Ashur still being alive and somehow more smug is the introduction of Achillia. Portrayed by Tenika Davis Achillia is the first female gladiator in the Spartacus universe and let’s just say she makes one hell of an entrance.
Midair flips deadly choreography and some serious intensity Achillia is clearly not here to play nice. The trailer teases her rise in the arena and the ripple effects she causes in a world built on tradition ego and extremely sweaty men yelling in Latin.
If Ashur is chaos incarnate Achillia is the wild card ready to burn the whole deck.
Expect Blood Sex Politics and More Blood
Let’s be honest nobody comes to Spartacus for quiet character drama and peaceful resolutions. House of Ashur seems to embrace the original formula and turn the dial up to eleven. In just under two minutes the trailer gives us everything we’ve been craving — intense arena fights steamy backroom deals gratuitous shirtlessness and so much betrayal you might need a whiteboard to keep track.
Also returning is that over-the-top stylized violence we all pretended was “artistic” back in 2010. You know the kind. Arterial sprays in slow motion flying sand and emotional monologues between stabbings. Glorious.
A Reign of Power Ashur Style
Ashur’s character has always been one of the most hated and loved in the franchise. His survival and rise to power flips the world of Spartacus on its head. No longer groveling or scheming from the sidelines he’s now pulling all the strings and flexing that greasy villain energy we can't get enough of.
From the trailer it’s clear House of Ashur won’t just rehash old tropes. It’s building something darker more unpredictable and honestly more fun.
