If you bet your life savings that R.J. Decker would end its freshman run with a tidy bow and a group hug, I hope you kept the receipt. The Season 1 finale, "Even Walls Fall Down," just wrapped on ABC, and it delivered exactly what we’ve come to expect from this show: high-stakes photography, questionable legal ethics, and a body count that makes South Beach look like a retirement community.
For ten episodes, we’ve watched R.J. (Scott Speedman) try to prove that his prison stint wasn’t just a result of bad luck, but a calculated frame-job. In the finale, the man behind the curtain was finally dragged into the light and then promptly dumped into a pool.
The Big Reveal: Daddy Issues and Darkrooms
The episode hit the ground running with R.J. and Emi (Jaina Lee Ortiz) finally connecting the dots. It turns out Emi’s father, the perpetually smug Victor Ochoa, wasn’t just a corrupt businessman; he was the architect of R.J.’s downfall. The reason? A missing camera containing a photo that proved Victor helped cover up a murder years ago.
It was a classic "man with a camera vs. man with a conglomerate" showdown. Seeing R.J. use his skills and his oddly loyal band of misfits, including his ex-wife and former cellmate, to outmaneuver Victor was deeply satisfying. When Victor ended up in a holding cell, R.J.’s victory lap felt earned. For a moment, it looked like the good guys might actually get to sleep through the night.

A Killer Cliffhanger
Of course, this is R.J. Decker, so "happily ever after" lasted about four minutes of screen time. While the crew was busy celebrating over foosball and beer, the show pulled the rug out from under us. The final shot of Victor Ochoa floating face-down in his own pool didn't just end the season; it blew up the premise for whatever comes next.
Victor is dead, and while plenty of people wanted him gone, R.J. is the one with the clearest motive and the most recent grudge. It’s a brilliant, if frustrating, pivot that turns our hero from a man seeking justice into a man fleeing a murder charge.
Will We Get an R.J. Decker Season 2?
Now for the million-dollar question: Is ABC bringing it back? While an official renewal hasn't been announced, the signs are looking good. Showrunner Rob Doherty has already hinted that a second season would focus on the fallout of Victor’s death, putting R.J. at the top of the suspect list.
The ratings have been steady, and Speedman’s "rugged but tired" energy has found a dedicated audience. If the network has any sense, they won't leave us hanging on that pool deck for long. We need to know who pulled the trigger or pushed the mogul.
What did you think of the finale? Did Victor get what he deserved, or is R.J. in way over his head? Drop your theories in the comments below and stay tuned to The TV Cave for all your renewal updates!
