Prime Video’s New RoboCop Series Is Happening and Detroit’s Favorite Cop Is Back

Amazon MGM Studios has officially greenlit an eight-episode, live-action RoboCop television series for Prime Video. Ever since Amazon swallowed the massive MGM library back in 2022, fans have been waiting to see which legacy properties would get pulled from the vault. After testing the waters with other classic titles, the studio is finally ready to dust off Detroit’s favorite cybernetic law enforcer. With a powerhouse creative team locked in behind the scenes, this project is skipping right past development limbo and heading straight into active production.

The corporate suits are bringing out some incredibly heavy hitters to make sure this version hits the mark. Industry veteran Peter Ocko, whose writing resume spans everything from the quirky brilliance of Pushing Daisies to the cult-favorite Lodge 49, has officially signed on as the showrunner, head writer, and executive producer. Even more exciting for horror and action purists, modern genre legend James Wan is executive producing via his Blumhouse Atomic Monster banner. Best of all, Ed Neumeier, the co-writer of Paul Verhoeven's original masterpiece, is on board as an executive producer to help keep the spirit of Old Detroit alive.

According to the official logline released by Amazon MGM Studios, the narrative will return directly to the basic premise that started it all. The plot centers on a massive tech conglomerate that convinces a local police department to introduce a technologically advanced robotic enforcer to combat a rising crime wave. The twist, of course, is that this cybernetic officer is implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen cop. The production team has promised a narrative that tackles urgent modern anxieties around unchecked artificial intelligence, corporate greed, and the loss of personal identity.

While the studio has not yet confirmed an exact release window or a definitive cast list, the announcement has already set the internet ablaze with fan speculation. Internet rumors are flying about whether original star Peter Weller might be tempted to make a legacy cameo or provide voice work.
