Pat Finn, a familiar face to television audiences and best known for his role on the long running ABC comedy The Middle, has died at the age of 60. The actor passed away on December 22 at his home in Los Angeles, according to reports confirmed by his family. His death marks the loss of a seasoned performer whose career spanned decades across network television, comedy, and improvisation.
Finn gained widespread recognition for portraying Bill Norwood, the well meaning neighbor of the Heck family on The Middle. He appeared throughout much of the series nine season run, becoming a consistent and recognizable presence on the show. The Middle, which aired from 2009 to 2018, remains a staple of American sitcom television, and Finn’s role contributed to its grounded and relatable tone.
Finn had been diagnosed with bladder cancer several years ago. In a statement released following his death, his family reflected on his personal values, noting his lifelong support of the Chicago Bears and his commitment to kindness and generosity. The family emphasized that Finn believed in making everyday life easier for others, a sentiment they shared in his memory.
Beyond The Middle, Pat Finn built an extensive television resume. His credits included appearances on Marvin Marvin, Two Broke Girls, House, Wizards of Waverly Place, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Ed, 3rd Rock From the Sun, Seinfeld, and Murphy Brown. These roles showcased his versatility and reliability as a character actor, particularly within comedic storytelling.
Earlier in his career, Finn was also a member of the renowned Second City improv group. During that time, he worked alongside future Saturday Night Live star Chris Farley, placing him within a notable era of American improvisational comedy that helped shape modern television humor.
Finn is survived by his wife, Donna Crowley Finn, and their three children, Cassidy, Caitlin, and Ryan.
