Lights, Camera, Mayhem as 'Monster' Season 4 Begins Filming with Lizzie Borden Taking Center Stage

Monster Season 4 has officially started filming and this time the true crime anthology is swinging into darker territory than ever before. Netflix’s hit series from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan is trading serial killers for axes with its latest installment centered around the infamous Lizzie Borden case. Yes, the girl who may or may not unalived her parents is getting the prestige streaming treatment.

Production kicked off October 9 in Los Angeles, with a fresh cast and a familiar face returning in a twisted new role. Ella Beatty steps into the role of Lizzie Borden, the Massachusetts woman accused (and controversially acquitted) of brutally murdering her father and stepmother in 1892. Meanwhile, Charlie Hunnam has signed on to play Andrew Borden, Lizzie’s allegedly unpleasant father. That’s right. From biker gang leader to Ed Gein, to father. Range.

The Monster anthology has carved out a niche by diving into America’s most sensational crimes, with past seasons spotlighting Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menéndez brothers. But this season marks a first: the show’s focus on a female subject. Lizzie’s story brings a potent mix of Victorian repression, small-town scandal, and enough drama for true crime lovers.

Netflix has yet to drop a release date for Season 4, but with production underway and a high-profile cast locked in, fans can probably expect the drama to hit screens sometime in 2026. Whether the series will lean into Lizzie’s possible innocence or go full slasher remains to be seen. Either way, it’s bound to get people talking and Googling.

With Monster Season 4 hinting at a fresh perspective, a juicy historical mystery, and more murder than you can shake a hatchet at, the true crime anthology continues to prove it knows exactly how to get under your skin.

Stay tuned for casting updates, trailers, and inevitable TikTok theories. This monster is just waking up.
