The Daily Grind Gets a Glow-Up: Everything We Know About Mindy Kaling’s ‘Not Suitable For Work’
If you’ve ever found yourself weeping into a lukewarm $18 salad while staring at an Excel spreadsheet, Mindy Kaling has a new show specifically designed to make you feel seen and perhaps a little judged. Her latest single-camera comedy, Not Suitable For Work, is officially heading to Hulu and Disney+ this summer, and it looks poised to capture the exact brand of professional misery we’ve all come to love.
The Murray Hill Hustle
Set in the aggressively overpriced and perpetually caffeinated neighborhood of Murray Hill, the series follows five twenty-somethings who have made "having a career" their entire personality. Forget work-life balance; these characters are aiming for work-work balance. It’s a premise that feels uniquely suited to the post-grad survivalist culture of Manhattan, where your worth is measured by your LinkedIn connections and how many hours of sleep you can skip before your skin turns gray.
A Cast That Actually Works
The ensemble is a refreshing mix of familiar faces and rising talent who seem perfectly cast to play people you’d avoid at a networking mixer:
Ella Hunt leads the pack as AJ Pascarelli, an investment banking analyst who probably hasn’t seen sunlight since the Obama administration.
Avantika swaps the Mean Girls vibes for the role of Abby, an assistant to a celebrity stylist, a job that surely involves more screaming than fashion.
Will Angus steps in as Davis, the quintessential "finance bro" who likely unironically uses the word "synergy" while hiding a secret heart of gold.
Jack Martin and Nicholas Duvernay round out the group as the resident idealist and the overachieving med student/actor hybrid, respectively.
Adding some much-needed adult supervision to the mix is Jay Ellis as Bill Gibson, the high-powered managing director who represents the "endgame" these kids are killing themselves to reach.
Behind the Scenes
Kaling isn't tackling the corporate ladder alone. She’s reuniting with longtime collaborator Charlie Grandy. Given their track record with The Sex Lives of College Girls, expect the dialogue to be fast, the insults to be sharp, and the emotional stakes to be surprisingly high for a show about people who choose to work on Saturdays.
Mark Your Calendars
Not Suitable For Work premieres June 2, 2026. The streamer is dropping the first three episodes at once—perfect for a mid-week procrastination session, followed by two episodes every Tuesday until the finale on June 23. It’s the perfect summer binge for anyone who has ever CC’d their boss on an email just to prove they were awake at 3:00 AM.
Will these five find happiness, or just a slightly better bonus? We'll find out in June. In the meantime, maybe try closing that spreadsheet for five minutes.
Let us know in the comments if you’ll be clocking in for the premiere!
