Memory of a Killer Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Is Nicky the Ferryman or Just Really Good at Blackmail?

Two men walk down a dimly lit hallway with red and gray flooring. One wears a black uniform, the other casual attire. A tense mood is present.

The latest installment of Fox’s hit series, Memory of a Killer, just dropped and Episode 6, titled "Uncle Jacob," proves that this show isn’t interested in playing it safe. Between high-tech assassinations and neurological death sentences, the series is firing on all cylinders.

The Ultimate Priest Fakeout

Let’s talk about that opening because it was a masterclass in the "gotcha" moment. We find Angelo (Patrick Dempsey) in a confessional, admitting he’s a paid-for-hire killer. For a split second, it looked like he was actually seeking repentance. Nope. Our favorite hitman was simply clearing the deck before taking out a priest who had been harming children. It was a brutal, satisfying opening that reminded us exactly who Angelo is, a man with a code, even if that code is written in blood.

A Diagnosis and a Dilemma

The central tension of the series, Angelo’s fading mind, took a dark turn this week. At his doctor’s appointment, the news is grim: Atrophy in the main memory. It’s early-onset Alzheimer’s. The doctor can’t provide a definitive timeline but suggests a support system, someone he can be 100% honest with.

Naturally, Angelo starts thinking of Nicky. Why? I have no idea. As far as I'm concerned, she shouldn’t be trusted as far as you can throw her. She’s already caught him in a lie about how he cleans his guns (thanks, Google) and she’s circling his secrets like a shark.

High-Tech Hits and “Good Job” Cookies

The creativity of the kills in this show remains top-tier. Angelo and Joe (Richard Harmon) take out Hansen, a money launderer who flipped on the Russians, using a rigged microphone to induce a heart attack during a live TV broadcast. It’s insane, inventive and deeply dark.

What’s even crazier is Joe’s desperate need for a "good job today" pat on the back. You’re a professional murderer, Joe. Here’s your cookie; now go hide the bodies. Speaking of bodies, Angelo leaving a security guard in a stairwell after hallucinating his brother was a massive rookie mistake. The memory issues aren't just a plot point anymore; they’re becoming a liability.

The Nicky Mystery Deepens

The episode ends on a massive cliffhanger. Angelo sets a "Ferryman" trap for Nicky, but she doesn't show. Instead, she’s at the doctor’s office, threatening him until he hands over Angelo’s medical records. Is Nicky the Ferryman? Does she work for them? Or is she just the most dangerous girlfriend in TV history?

Meanwhile, Dave is feeling the heat as FBI Agent Linda Grant finally says the quiet part out loud: Angelo is a suspect. With Jeff’s private investigator uncle finding the missing button from Angelo’s expensive Italian jacket, the walls are closing in fast.

"Uncle Jacob" delivered a complex, fast-paced hour of television that leaves us with more questions than answers. Between Maria’s confusing quest for an illegal gun and the looming shadow of the Ferryman, the back half of the season is looking lethal.
