My favorite reality tv cooking competition is back - MasterChef and it has leveled up again with its Season 15 theme called: MasterChef: Dynamic Duos. This season there will be two individuals winning that MasterChef title. From ex-spouses to best friends and newlyweds, the heat is on to not only cook, but to cooperate with your partner. I feel like double the people double the prize money right? But Gordon said aht aht.
The surprises don’t stop with the theme, there is a new judge this season and bless it is a black woman finally. I personally have been waiting seasons for this. One of the reasons Next Level Chef works is because of the diversity on the judging panel and I am happy to see Gordon lock in on that for MasterChef. Renowned chef and TV personality Tiffany Derry joins culinary titans Gordon Ramsay and Joe Bastianich.
Let’s dive into everything that happened in this fiery, flavor-packed premiere of MasterChef: Dynamic Duos.
What’s New in MasterChef Season 15?
Dynamic Duos Format Changes the Game

For the first time in the show’s history, MasterChef pairs up home cooks to compete in teams. Contestants must rely on each other’s strengths, navigate differences, and build trust while dishing out beautiful looking and tasty food.
The premiere featured six duos, each with a unique relationship dynamic. We saw married couples, dating couples and relatives to name a few.
Each team faced an audition challenge with the hope of winning the coveted white aprons. Only three duos succeeded in round one.
Meet the New Judge: Tiffany Derry

One of the biggest highlights of the premiere was the introduction of Chef Tiffany Derry to the judging panel. A James Beard Award nominee, Derry is no stranger to competitive cooking, having starred on Top Chef, Bobby’s Triple Threat, and The Great American Recipe.
I am ready for her to bring an interesting flare into the kitchen. She is known for her southern cooking and fusion style. Southern food and soul food is the best themed cooking, so I’m hoping this season will have some challenges around that theme.
The First Challenge: Culinary Chemistry Under Fire
High Stakes in Just 30 Minutes
Each duo was tasked with preparing a signature dish in only 30 minutes. The duos have to prove they have what it takes as an individual and that they can work in a team. Some shined, while others stumbled.
Winners and Eliminations: The Apron Ceremony
Only three duos were awarded white aprons, moving forward in the competition:
Michelle & Zach – (partners with a baby at home) chili-spiced chicken leg with mascarpone polenta.
Aivan & Tina – (Auntie and niece) Grandma’s Vietnamese steamed bass.
Timothy & Athena – (newlyweds) Curried lamb chops.

Where to Watch MasterChef: Dynamic Duos
Catch MasterChef: Dynamic Duos every Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX. Episodes are also available for streaming on Hulu.
As the competition heats up so does my excitement to see which duo is crowned MasterChef.
