Dark-haired woman in jeweled earrings and necklace glances back at a gala, with blurred photographers behind her.

Kylie Jenner is trading reality television for a murder mystery, and her first major scripted role sounds considerably darker than anything we have seen her do before.

Jenner is set to star in and executive produce Bachelorette Weekend, a new thriller drama headed to Hulu. According to Deadline, the project has received a series order, with Jenner’s sister Kim Kardashian also on board as an executive producer. The working title gives you the party, but the premise makes it very clear that this bachelorette trip is not ending with matching pajamas and a hungover flight home.

Jenner will play the bride at the center of the story, whose celebratory weekend takes a deadly turn when she is found murdered in a swimming pool. Her closest girlfriends suddenly become suspects, and the series will unravel what happened before the bride ended up dead.

Kylie Jenner Is at the Center of the Mystery

While killing off your star sounds like an unusual way to launch a television series, Jenner's character isn't expected to disappear from the story after the murder. Her bride is being positioned as the person connecting the various pieces of the mystery as viewers learn more about the events leading to her death.

That could leave plenty of room for flashbacks, conflicting accounts and secrets that change how audiences see the women involved. Considering every member of the friend group becomes a potential suspect, we probably shouldn't expect this to have been the happiest bridal party even before somebody ended up floating in the pool.

Bachelorette Weekend will mark Jenner's first substantial scripted television role. She has appeared as herself in projects over the years and recently made a cameo in Charli XCX's The Moment, but this puts her at the center of a fictional series rather than relying on the reality-TV version audiences already know.

Kim Kardashian Is Producing the Series

Kim Kardashian is also involved behind the scenes as an executive producer, continuing her own growing move into scripted television. Kardashian has already crossed over from reality television into acting through projects including American Horror Story: Delicate and Hulu's All's Fair. Now she is helping her younger sister make that same jump, although Jenner is going straight into a murder mystery for her first major role.

The project falls under Kardashian's first-look deal with 20th Television. Jenner and Kardashian will executive produce alongside writer and creator Lauren Oliver and producer Aaron Kaplan. Oliver is known for books including Before I Fall, Panic and the Delirium trilogy, making a mystery centered on a group of women, buried secrets and a suspicious death pretty firmly in her wheelhouse.

Bachelorette Weekend Comes From an Unpublished Novel

The series is based on an unpublished novel by Flora Collins that was developed through Oliver's StoryGiants company. Oliver is writing the television adaptation, while Kapital Entertainment and 20th Television are behind the project.

That also means audiences won't necessarily be able to run to the bookstore and spoil the murder before the show arrives. With the source material still unpublished, Bachelorette Weekend gets a little more room to introduce its mystery without millions of viewers already knowing exactly who did what.

No additional cast members or premiere date have been announced yet, so the identity of Jenner's suspicious bridesmaids remains under wraps.

Kylie Jenner Is Officially Trying Something New

Jenner has spent most of her life on television, but playing a fictional character is a very different assignment from having cameras follow your actual family.

That alone makes Bachelorette Weekend one of those projects people will probably check out simply because they want to see what Jenner can do with a real scripted role. The fact that the show surrounds her with a murder, a group of suspects and what sounds like plenty of ugly friendship secrets certainly doesn't hurt.

We'll have to wait to see who joins her on this very unfortunate girls' trip, but one thing already seems clear: this bride is definitely not making it to the wedding.
