Move over Superman, there is a new hero in town and he comes armed with a camera, a notebook, and a knack for getting into trouble. Jimmy Olsen, the beloved Daily Planet photographer and longtime sidekick to the Man of Steel, is officially returning to screens in a brand new DC Studios series called DC Crime. The show promises a fresh take on the classic character, blending true crime investigation with comic book shenanigans, and giving fans a reason to finally see the behind-the-scenes life of Metropolis’s favorite lensman.
Jimmy Olsen has been a staple of the Superman universe for decades, and over the years, the character has been brought to life by a variety of talented actors. In the 1950s and 1960s television classic Superman with George Reeves, Jack Larson made Jimmy a household name. The 1978 Superman film series saw Marc McClure step into the role, a part he reprised in multiple sequels and cameo appearances throughout the DC Universe. More recently, small screen adaptations such as Smallville and Supergirl introduced Jimmy to a new generation with actors like Mehcad Brooks taking the mantle. Now, Skyler Gisondo, fresh off the summer blockbuster Superman directed by James Gunn, is stepping into Jimmy Olsen’s shoes for the DC Crime series.

DC Crime is billed as a true crime docuseries with Jimmy Olsen as the host, tackling some of the most notorious villains in the DC Universe. Season one will focus on Gorilla Grodd, the psychic gorilla who has been a thorn in The Flash’s side since his debut in 1959. The creators behind Netflix’s cult favorite American Vandal, Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, will helm the show, promising a witty, satirical approach to crime investigation with a superhero twist. Executive producers James Gunn and Peter Safran ensure the series stays true to DC Studios’ vision while keeping it fun and unpredictable.
Jimmy Olsen has always been more than just Superman’s sidekick, and DC Crime looks set to prove that. With a unique format, a talented cast, and superhero shenanigans, this series could become the must-watch show for comic book fans and true crime enthusiasts alike. As Jimmy dusts off his camera and sharpens his reporting skills, it is clear that Metropolis is about to get a little more interesting, and viewers will not want to miss it.
