Greg Vaughan, the soap opera stalwart known for General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, and Days of Our Lives, recently joined Ashley Saray & Je-Ree on The Soap Wire Podcast, brought to you by The TV Cave, to dish about his exciting new role on Beyond the Gates. Fans of daytime television and primetime drama alike are buzzing about Vaughan’s transition, and the conversation revealed just why this move feels like a natural next step in his career.

Je-Ree kicked things off with a friendly nod to their past encounter, recalling a meeting at a soap event in New York. Vaughan chuckled, “I remember actually because it wasn’t that long ago,” before the discussion quickly pivoted to the show that has him thrilled: Beyond the Gates, a series centered on a powerful American Black family navigating life and politics in Washington D.C.

When asked about his first reaction to joining, Vaughan didn’t hesitate. “Michelle and I, we go back to our General Hospital days…she called me like in mid-July, out of the blue, and we just had that conversation. It wasn’t long-winded. It was just like a matter of a yes or a no because she wanted to start this in the next few weeks,” he recalled. The brevity of the offer didn’t dampen his excitement; in fact, it amplified it. “I found out a couple of my friends from Queen Sugar were there…so I’ll be surrounded by some good people,” Vaughan said.

Vaughan’s character on Beyond the Gates is already generating buzz. Though details are still under wraps, he describes him as complex and layered—a figure navigating both family dynamics and high-stakes societal pressures. The actor shared that stepping into this role feels like a perfect blend of familiar soap opera rigor and fresh, prime-time storytelling. “I always say soap operas are just an amazing training ground…you’re literally in the homes with us daily,” Vaughan explained, highlighting how his daytime experience prepared him for the fast pace and intense material of the new series.

He even shared a behind-the-scenes anecdote about reconnecting with old colleagues while preparing for the role: “I reached out to Wayne, our man Barber…he said, ‘I’m working on this really cool show. I don’t know if you’ve heard of it. It’s called Beyond the Gates.’ Small world,” Vaughan laughed.

For fans, Vaughan’s move signals a shift from daytime familiarity to prime-time intrigue, promising a mix of drama, tension and the layered character work viewers love him for. As he settles into his new role, one thing is clear: Beyond the Gates is a show to watch, and Greg Vaughan is bringing all the charm, grit, and soap-honed skill fans could hope for.
