The long, cold winter hiatus is finally over and Ghosts Season 5 Episode 11, "The Others," has officially brought the Woodstone B&B crew back into our lives. While we've spent four and a half seasons hearing Sam and Jay’s spectral roommates bicker, "The Others" finally pulls back the curtain on the mysteries lurking just beyond the property line. It’s the return we’ve been waiting for, packed with underground bunkers, questionable fashion choices and the long-awaited arrival of a figure from Flower's past.
The Cult of Personality: Enter Bruce
For five seasons, we have heard whispers about Flower’s time in a cult, specifically the "family" led by the elusive Bruce. In a massive payoff for long-term fans, Bruce has finally arrived and he’s exactly the brand of manipulative "enlightened" fraud we expected. After rejoining her old flock with a curious Isaac in tow Flower finds herself back in the fold.
While Thor spirals into a jealous panic, fearing Flower hasn't actually evolved past her hippie-commune roots, Flower reveals she’s playing the long game. She knows Bruce is a liar and intends to expose him to disband the group for good. This involves a "fake" breakup with Thor that nearly breaks the big guy's heart, proving once again that communication isn't exactly the strong suit of the deceased.
Trevor’s Romantic Trap (and the Sass Factor)
In the house, the "hookup heard 'round the world" from the holidays has evolved into a full-blown nightmare for Trevor. Patience, our favorite feral Puritan, is ready to walk down the aisle. Meanwhile, Trevor has developed a serious case of wandering eye for Barbara, a new ghost and Philly native from the cult who has caught his attention.
Following the advice of Sassapis the proclaimed "King of Being Dumped" Trevor attempts to become everything Patience hates. It’s a classic Trevor scheme: if he can’t be the good guy, he’ll be the guy she can’t stand. However, things take a turn when Barbara actually hits on him. In a rare moment of actual growth (or just exhaustion), Trevor turns her down because he realizes he actually cares for Patience. Naturally, Patience sees only the interaction, misunderstands everything and flees into the dirt.
Jay’s Heroic Metal Detector
While the ghosts are busy with their existential drama, Sam and Jay are supposed to be heading out on a much-needed
couple’s trip. Jay is packed, his friends are idling in the driveway, and he’s even brought his "treasured" metal detector along for the ride.
But this is Woodstone, so of course, Sam stalls because of a ghost crisis. Thanks to Pete who still insists on taking bathroom breaks despite having no biological reason to do so, the living learn that Bruce plans to "push Flower into the dirt" as punishment for her past betrayal.
In a moment that proves Jay is the ultimate "ghost dad," he abandons his vacation to save an invisible friend he can’t even see. Using his metal detector, Jay locates the underground bunker just in time. Sam and Jay’s intervention doesn't just save Flower; it exposes Bruce’s fraudulence, sending the cult leader himself into the dirt and ending the "Family" forever.
The Verdict: Will Patience Return?
Seeing Jay prioritize Flower over his own vacation was a touching reminder of why this ensemble works so well. However, the episode leaves us with one lingering, dirt-covered question: Have we seen the last of Patience? Given her penchant for reappearing in the most inconvenient places, Woodstone might not be rid of its resident Puritan just yet.
