‘General Hospital’ Kills Off Jack Brennan in Shocking Metro Court Death

Serious middle-aged man in a dark suit and tie stands indoors against a plain gray background, looking off to the side.

Well, General Hospital really went there. Jack Brennan's time in Port Charles has come to a deadly end, with the WSB operative becoming the latest character to meet a shocking fate on the ABC soap. Considering everything that happened in the hours leading up to his apparent death, there are already plenty of questions about exactly what happened to him and who could be held responsible.

The August 31 episode ended with Charlotte Cassadine and Danny Morgan sneaking into the Metro Court pool after it had closed for the season. What was supposed to be one last swim quickly became something much more disturbing when Charlotte went underwater and spotted a body floating face down in the pool. She surfaced screaming, and the body was identified as Jack Brennan. But while we know where Brennan ended up, General Hospital has left a very important part of the story unanswered: How exactly did he get there?

Ava Spiked Brennan's Drink

Brennan's night took a dangerous turn thanks to Ava Jerome and Drew Cain. Drew wanted access to Brennan's hotel room so he could search for documents Brennan was using to blackmail him, and Ava was tasked with keeping Brennan occupied long enough for Drew to make his move.

Ava spiked Brennan's drink before he returned to their table, then convinced him to stick around by turning the conversation toward Nina. Brennan drank the spiked beverage as the two discussed Nina's complicated relationship with Willow, and he eventually became noticeably drunk and warm. Brennan finally decided to leave so he could take a call in his hotel room, prompting Ava to text Drew and warn him that Brennan was heading upstairs.

Ava later became concerned that the pill hadn't taken effect quickly enough and rushed to Brennan's room herself to warn Drew. Considering Brennan would soon be discovered in the pool, Ava putting something in his drink immediately puts her in a very uncomfortable position regardless of what ultimately caused his death.

Drew Was Searching Brennan's Hotel Room

While Brennan was drinking with Ava, Drew was carrying out the other half of their plan. He broke into Carly's Metro Court office, inserted a flash drive into her computer and uploaded a virus designed to take the hotel's security system offline. With the cameras and security compromised, Drew headed to Brennan's hotel room and began searching for the documents Brennan had been using to blackmail him.

Ava eventually interrupted the search with the warning that Brennan was on his way back. Now Brennan has turned up in the Metro Court pool on the same night Drew deliberately compromised the hotel's security system and broke into his room. Sir, you wanted some documents, and now there's a dead WSB operative in the hotel pool. Drew might want to start thinking about how he's going to explain this one.

What Actually Happened to Jack Brennan?

That's the big question General Hospital has left hanging. We know Ava spiked Brennan's drink, Brennan consumed it and was visibly affected afterward. We also know Drew disabled the Metro Court security system and entered Brennan's room before Brennan was later discovered floating in the pool.

What we don't know is what happened between those events. The episode did not show Brennan entering the pool or reveal exactly how he died, which leaves a significant gap in the timeline. His condition after drinking the spiked beverage could have played a role, but until GH fills in those missing moments, there is no way to say exactly what caused Brennan's death.

Ava and Drew certainly have reasons to be nervous in the meantime. Even if neither directly caused Brennan's death, their actions immediately before his body was discovered could put both of them under serious scrutiny. Ava drugged him, Drew compromised the hotel's security and both were involved in a scheme targeting Brennan on the same night he died. Yeah, that is not going to look great when someone starts putting the pieces together.

Chris McKenna's Run as Brennan Comes to an End

Brennan's apparent death brings Chris McKenna's run on General Hospital to a dramatic conclusion after he assumed the role in 2025. McKenna took over the character from Charles Mesure and quickly made Brennan his own, particularly as the WSB operative became more deeply connected to Carly, Josslyn and several of Port Charles' biggest storylines.

Brennan's relationship with Carly became an especially important part of his time on the show, while his role in Josslyn's involvement with the WSB gave the character another major connection to the Spencer family. Those relationships are also why his death shouldn't simply disappear after the initial shock wears off. Brennan had his hands in too many corners of Port Charles for that.

Brennan's Death Could Have a Huge Fallout

There are several people who could feel the impact of Brennan's death, but Carly and Josslyn immediately come to mind. Carly's complicated history with Brennan gave the two a connection that survived plenty of questionable behavior on both sides, while Josslyn's involvement with the WSB puts her directly inside the world Brennan leaves behind.

Then we have Ava and Drew, who may have the most immediate problem. Ava drugged Brennan, Drew compromised the Metro Court's security system and both were involved in a scheme targeting him shortly before his body was discovered. Even without knowing Brennan's official cause of death, that is not a timeline either of them will want the PCPD examining too closely.

We also can't forget where Brennan was found. His body turning up at the Metro Court brings Carly's hotel directly into whatever investigation comes next, particularly after its security system mysteriously went offline on the same night. There are enough suspicious circumstances here to keep half of Port Charles busy trying to figure out what really happened.

So yes, Brennan appears to be gone, but General Hospital has left us with a much bigger mystery: What happened between Brennan leaving Ava and Charlotte finding him in that pool? Right now, we know how Brennan's night started and we know where it ended, but everything in between could blow this story wide open.
