Port Charles Mourns a Legend: General Hospital Drops Emotional Anthony Geary Tribute

A man and woman smiling closely together against a plain background. The man wears a blue jacket, and both have relaxed, content expressions.

The town of Port Charles is a little quieter today. General Hospital just took a break from its usual baby-swap shenanigans to pay its respects to the GOAT of daytime television. In a move that has soap fans reaching for the nearest box of Kleenex, the show shared a touching tribute to the late, great Anthony Geary on its official Instagram today (January 23).

Geary, who famously portrayed the incomparable Luke Spencer, passed away in December 2025, leaving a gaping, denim-clad hole in the hearts of viewers even though he retired from acting years ago. While we’ve all been waiting to see how the powers that be would handle the loss of a man who essentially carried the network on his back for four decades, today’s montage was the first official step in saying goodbye.

A Legacy in High Definition (and 80s Grain)

The montage isn't just a collection of clips; it’s a masterclass in how to be a television icon. From his 1978 debut as the "diamond in the rough" to the 1981 wedding that literally stopped the world, the video serves as a reminder that before there was Peak TV, there was Luke Spencer.

The tribute features some heavy-hitting testimonials that prove Geary was just as beloved off-camera as he was on it. Genie Francis (Laura Spencer), his partner in crime and romance for the ages, delivered a line that gutted the fandom: "Some people were so alive that they'll never be gone." If that doesn't make you want to rewatch the Ice Princess saga immediately, check your pulse.

Even Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) chimed in, calling Geary a "master craftsman" who was "delightfully naughty." It’s a fitting description for a man who managed to make a career out of playing a morally gray anti-hero long before it was cool on HBO.

This Is Just the Warm-Up

While today's Instagram post was the appetizer, the main course is still cooking. General Hospital confirmed that a full-hour commemorative episode is slated for Friday, February 20, 2026. Expect more rare footage, more cast reflections and likely a lot more weeping from Laura Wright (Carly), who noted in the tribute how grateful she was to have shared the stage with the legend.

For those of us at Soap Wire, it’s a bittersweet moment. Geary was the blueprint for every "bad boy with a heart of gold" that has graced our screens since. Seeing the show honor him with such class, despite the usual soap opera chaos is a rare moment of genuine heart in a genre known for its camp.

The Final Word

Anthony Geary didn't just play a character; he defined an era. This tribute montage is a necessary, albeit painful, reminder of the talent we lost. As we look toward the February special, one thing is clear: Port Charles will never truly be the same without its favorite rogue.

What are your favorite Luke Spencer memories? Is it the disco dancing, the Cassadine showdowns, or just that signature smirk? Head over to our comments and let’s toast to the man who made us all believe in the power of a really good perm.

Stay tuned to Soap Wire for more General Hospital updates and the full recap of the upcoming tribute special.
